A PSALM OF ASAPH. God has stood in the congregation of God, || He judges among the gods. God has taken his place in the divine council; in the midst of the gods he holds judgment: A psalm of Asaph. God presides in the great assembly; he renders judgment among the “gods|:
Until when do you judge perversely? And lift up the face of the wicked? Selah. “How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked? Selah “How long will you defend the unjust and show partiality to the wicked?
Judge the weak and fatherless, || Declare the afflicted and the poor righteous. Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.
Let the weak and needy escape, || Deliver them from the hand of the wicked. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.
They did not know, nor do they understand, || They habitually walk in darkness, || All the foundations of earth are moved. They have neither knowledge nor understanding, they walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken. “The ‘gods’ know nothing, they understand nothing. They walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken.
I have said, “You [are] gods, || And sons of the Most High—all of you, I said, “You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you; “I said, ‘You are “gods|; you are all sons of the Most High.’
But you die as man, and you fall as one of the heads.” nevertheless, like men you shall die, and fall like any prince.” But you will die like mere mortals; you will fall like every other ruler.”
Rise, O God, judge the earth, || For You have inheritance among all the nations! Arise, O God, judge the earth; for you shall inherit all the nations! Rise up, O God, judge the earth, for all the nations are your inheritance.
