1 {To the chief Musician. On Jeduthun. Of Asaph. A Psalm.} My voice is unto God, and I will cry; my voice is unto God, and he will give ear unto me. I cry aloud to God, aloud to God, and he will hear me. For the director of music. For Jeduthun. Of Asaph. A psalm. I cried out to God for help; I cried out to God to hear me.
2 In the day of my trouble, I sought the Lord: my hand was stretched out in the night, and slacked not; my soul refused to be comforted. In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord; in the night my hand is stretched out without wearying; my soul refuses to be comforted. When I was in distress, I sought the Lord; at night I stretched out untiring hands, and I would not be comforted.
3 I remembered God, and I moaned; I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. Selah. When I remember God, I moan; when I meditate, my spirit faints. Selah I remembered you, God, and I groaned; I meditated, and my spirit grew faint.
4 Thou holdest open mine eyelids; I am full of disquiet and cannot speak. You hold my eyelids open; I am so troubled that I cannot speak. You kept my eyes from closing; I was too troubled to speak.
5 I consider the days of old, the years of ancient times. I consider the days of old, the years long ago. I thought about the former days, the years of long ago;
6 I remember my song in the night; I muse in mine own heart, and my spirit maketh diligent search. I said, “Let me remember my song in the night; let me meditate in my heart.” Then my spirit made a diligent search: I remembered my songs in the night. My heart meditated and my spirit asked:
7 Will the Lord cast off for ever? and will he be favourable no more? “Will the Lord spurn forever, and never again be favorable? “Will the Lord reject forever? Will he never show his favor again?
8 Hath his loving-kindness ceased for ever? hath [his] word come to an end from generation to generation? Has his steadfast love forever ceased? Are his promises at an end for all time? Has his unfailing love vanished forever? Has his promise failed for all time?
9 Hath God forgotten to be gracious? or hath he in anger shut up his tender mercies? Selah. Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger shut up his compassion?” Selah Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?”
10 Then said I, This is my weakness: -- the years of the right hand of the Most High Then I said, “I will appeal to this, to the years of the right hand of the Most High.” Then I thought, “To this I will appeal: the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand.
11 Will I remember, -- the works of Jah; for I will remember thy wonders of old, I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your wonders of old. I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.
12 And I will meditate upon all thy work, and muse upon thy doings. I will ponder all your work, and meditate on your mighty deeds. I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.”
13 O God, thy way is in the sanctuary: who is so great a god as God? Your way, O God, is holy. What god is great like our God? Your ways, God, are holy. What god is as great as our God?
14 Thou art the God that doest wonders; thou hast declared thy strength among the peoples. You are the God who works wonders; you have made known your might among the peoples. You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples.
15 Thou hast with [thine] arm redeemed thy people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah. You with your arm redeemed your people, the children of Jacob and Joseph. Selah With your mighty arm you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph.
16 The waters saw thee, O God, the waters saw thee; they trembled, yea, the depths were troubled: When the waters saw you, O God, when the waters saw you, they were afraid; indeed, the deep trembled. The waters saw you, God, the waters saw you and writhed; the very depths were convulsed.
17 The thick clouds poured out water; the skies sent out a sound, yea, thine arrows went abroad: The clouds poured out water; the skies gave forth thunder; your arrows flashed on every side. The clouds poured down water, the heavens resounded with thunder; your arrows flashed back and forth.
18 The voice of thy thunder was in the whirlwind, lightnings lit up the world; the earth was troubled and it quaked. The crash of your thunder was in the whirlwind; your lightnings lighted up the world; the earth trembled and shook. Your thunder was heard in the whirlwind, your lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked.
19 Thy way is in the sea, and thy paths are in the great waters; and thy footsteps are not known. Your way was through the sea, your path through the great waters; yet your footprints were unseen. Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen.
20 Thou leddest thy people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron. You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron. You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
