1 A Psalm of Asaph. Surely God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart. Truly God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart. A psalm of Asaph. Surely God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart.

3 For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. For I was envious of the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
4 They have no struggle in their death; their bodies are well-fed. For they have no pangs until death; their bodies are fat and sleek. They have no struggles; their bodies are healthy and strong.
5 They are free of the burdens others carry; they are not afflicted like other men. They are not in trouble as others are; they are not stricken like the rest of mankind. They are free from common human burdens; they are not plagued by human ills.
6 Therefore pride is their necklace; a garment of violence covers them. Therefore pride is their necklace; violence covers them as a garment. Therefore pride is their necklace; they clothe themselves with violence.
7 From their prosperity proceeds iniquity; the imaginations of their hearts run wild. Their eyes swell out through fatness; their hearts overflow with follies. From their callous hearts comes iniquity; their evil imaginations have no limits.
8 They mock and speak with malice; with arrogance they threaten oppression. They scoff and speak with malice; loftily they threaten oppression. They scoff, and speak with malice; with arrogance they threaten oppression.
9 They set their mouths against the heavens, and their tongues strut across the earth. They set their mouths against the heavens, and their tongue struts through the earth. Their mouths lay claim to heaven, and their tongues take possession of the earth.
10 So their people return to this place and drink up waters in abundance. Therefore his people turn back to them, and find no fault in them. Therefore their people turn to them and drink up waters in abundance.
11 The wicked say, “How can God know? Does the Most High have knowledge?” And they say, “How can God know? Is there knowledge in the Most High?” They say, “How would God know? Does the Most High know anything?”
12 Behold, these are the wicked—always carefree as they increase their wealth. Behold, these are the wicked; always at ease, they increase in riches. This is what the wicked are like— always free of care, they go on amassing wealth.
13 Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure; in innocence I have washed my hands. All in vain have I kept my heart clean and washed my hands in innocence. Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure and have washed my hands in innocence.
14 For I am afflicted all day long and punished every morning. For all the day long I have been stricken and rebuked every morning. All day long I have been afflicted, and every morning brings new punishments.
15 If I had said, “I will speak this way,” then I would have betrayed Your children. If I had said, “I will speak thus,” I would have betrayed the generation of your children. If I had spoken out like that, I would have betrayed your children.
16 When I tried to understand all this, it was troublesome in my sight But when I thought how to understand this, it seemed to me a wearisome task, When I tried to understand all this, it troubled me deeply
17 until I entered God’s sanctuary; then I discerned their end. until I went into the sanctuary of God; then I discerned their end. till I entered the sanctuary of God; then I understood their final destiny.
18 Surely You set them on slick ground; You cast them down into ruin. Truly you set them in slippery places; you make them fall to ruin. Surely you place them on slippery ground; you cast them down to ruin.
19 How suddenly they are laid waste, completely swept away by terrors! How they are destroyed in a moment, swept away utterly by terrors! How suddenly are they destroyed, completely swept away by terrors!
20 Like one waking from a dream, so You, O Lord, awaken and despise their form. Like a dream when one awakes, O Lord, when you rouse yourself, you despise them as phantoms. They are like a dream when one awakes; when you arise, Lord, you will despise them as fantasies.
21 When my heart was grieved and I was pierced within, When my soul was embittered, when I was pricked in heart, When my heart was grieved and my spirit embittered,
22 I was senseless and ignorant; I was a brute beast before You. I was brutish and ignorant; I was like a beast toward you. I was senseless and ignorant; I was a brute beast before you.
23 Yet I am always with You; You hold my right hand. Nevertheless, I am continually with you; you hold my right hand. Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand.
24 You guide me with Your counsel, and later receive me in glory. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me to glory. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory.
25 Whom have I in heaven but You? And on earth I desire no one besides You. Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you.

28 But as for me, it is good to draw near to God. I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, that I may proclaim all Your works. But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, that I may tell of all your works. But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign LORD my refuge; I will tell of all your deeds.
