1 For the choir director. Al-tashheth. Of David. A Mikhtam. When he fled from Saul in the cave. Be gracious to me, O God, be gracious to me, For my soul takes refuge in You; And in the shadow of Your wings I will take refuge Until destruction passes by. Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, till the storms of destruction pass by. For the director of music. To the tune of “Do Not Destroy.” Of David. A miktam. When he had fled from Saul into the cave. Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me, for in you I take refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed.
2 I will call to God Most High, To God who accomplishes all things for me. I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me. I cry out to God Most High, to God, who vindicates me.
3 He will send from heaven and save me; He reproaches him who tramples upon me. Selah. God will send His lovingkindness and His truth. He will send from heaven and save me; he will put to shame him who tramples on me. Selah God will send out his steadfast love and his faithfulness! He sends from heaven and saves me, rebuking those who hotly pursue me— God sends forth his love and his faithfulness.
4 My soul is among lions; I am lying down among those who breathe forth fire, Sons of men whose teeth are spears and arrows And their tongue a sharp sword. My soul is in the midst of lions; I lie down amid fiery beasts— the children of man, whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords. I am in the midst of lions; I am forced to dwell among ravenous beasts— men whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords.
5 Be exalted above the heavens, O God; Let Your glory be above all the earth. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth! Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth.
6 They have set a net for my steps; My soul is bowed down; They dug a pit before me; They themselves have fallen into the midst of it. Selah. They set a net for my steps; my soul was bowed down. 8 Awake, my glory! Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn. Awake, my glory! Awake, O harp and lyre! I will awake the dawn! Awake, my soul! Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn.
9 I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to You among the nations. I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations. I will praise you, Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples.
10 For Your lovingkindness is great to the heavens And Your truth to the skies. For your steadfast love is great to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
