לְאָדָ֥ם
מַֽעַרְכֵי־
לֵ֑ב
וּ֝מֵיְהוָ֗ה
מַעֲנֵ֥ה
לָשֽׁוֹן׃
The plans
of the heart
belong to man,
but the reply
of the tongue
is from the LORD.
The preparations
of the heart
in man,
and the answer
of the tongue,
[is] from the LORD.
2
כָּֽל־
דַּרְכֵי־
אִ֭ישׁ

וְתֹכֵ֖ן
רוּח֣וֹת
יְהוָֽה׃
All
a man’s
ways
are pure
in his own eyes,
but his motives
are weighed out
by the LORD.
All the ways
of a man
[are] clean
in his own eyes;
but the LORD
weigheth
the spirits.
3
גֹּ֣ל
אֶל־
יְהוָ֣ה
מַעֲשֶׂ֑יךָ
וְ֝יִכֹּ֗נוּ
מַחְשְׁבֹתֶֽיךָ׃
Commit
your works
to
the LORD
and your plans
will be achieved.
Commit
thy works
unto the LORD,
and thy thoughts
shall be established.
4

The LORD
has made
everything
for His purpose—
even
the wicked
for the day
of disaster.
The LORD
hath made
all [things] for himself:
yea, even the wicked
for the day
of evil.

Everyone
who is proud
in heart
is detestable
to the LORD;
be assured that
he will not
go unpunished.
Every one [that is] proud
in heart
[is] an abomination
to the LORD:
[though] hand
[join] in hand,
he shall not be unpunished.

מֵרָֽע׃
By loving devotion
and faithfulness
iniquity is
atoned for,
and by the fear
of the LORD
one turns aside
from evil.
By mercy
and truth
iniquity
is purged:
and by the fear
of the LORD
[men] depart
from evil.

בִּרְצ֣וֹת

When a man’s
ways
please
the LORD,
He makes even
the man’s enemies
live at peace
with him.
When a man's
ways
please
the LORD,
he maketh even his enemies
to be at peace
with him.

Better

than great

Better
[is] a little
with righteousness
than great

without right.
9
לֵ֣ב

A man’s

but the LORD
determines
his steps.
A man's
heart
deviseth
his way:
but the LORD
directeth
his steps.

A divine verdict
is on
the lips
of a king;
his mouth
must not
betray
justice.
A divine sentence
[is] in the lips
of the king:
his mouth
transgresseth
not in judgment.

Honest
scales

are from the LORD;
all
the weights
in the bag
are His concern.
A just
weight
and balance
[are] the LORD'S:
all the weights
of the bag
[are] his work.

Wicked

is detestable
to kings,
for
a throne
is established

[It is] an abomination
to kings
to commit
wickedness:
for the throne
is established
by righteousness.

Righteous

and he who speaks

Righteous
lips
[are] the delight
of kings;
and they love
him that speaketh
right.

חֲמַת־

The wrath

The wrath
of a king
[is as] messengers
of death:
but a wise
man
will pacify
it.

When a king’s
face
brightens,
there is life;
his favor
is like a rain cloud
in spring.
In the light
of the king's
countenance
[is] life;
and his favour
[is] as a cloud
of the latter rain.

How much

To gain

is more desirable

How much better
[is it] to get
wisdom
than gold!
and to get
understanding
rather to be chosen
than silver!

The highway
