1 JUDGE not, that you may not be judged, “Judge not, that you be not judged. “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.
2 For with what judgment you judge, you shall be judged: and with what measure you mete, it shall be measured to you again. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
3 Any why seest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye; and seest not the beam that is in thy own eye? Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?
4 Or how sayest thou to thy brother: Let me cast the mote out of thy eye; and behold a beam is in thy own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?
5 Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam in thy own eye, and then shalt thou see to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye. You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye. You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
6 Give not that which is holy to dogs; neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest perhaps they trample them under their feet, and turning upon you, they tear you. “Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you. “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.
7 Ask, and it shall be given you: seek, and you shall find: knock, and it shall be opened to you. “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
8 For every one that asketh, receiveth: and he that seeketh, findeth: and to him that knocketh, it shall be opened. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
9 Or what man is there among you, of whom if his son shall ask bread, will he reach him a stone? Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone?
10 Or if he shall ask him a fish, will he reach him a serpent? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?
11 If you then being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children: how much more will your Father who is in heaven, give good things to them that ask him? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!
12 All things therefore whatsoever you would that men should do to you, do you also to them. For this is the law and the prophets. “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
13 Enter ye in at the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there are who go in thereat. “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.
14 How narrow is the gate, and strait is the way that leadeth to life: and few there are that find it! For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
15 Beware of false prophets, who come to you in the clothing of sheep, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.
16 By their fruits you shall know them. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit, and the evil tree bringeth forth evil fruit. So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can an evil tree bring forth good fruit. A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.
19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit, shall be cut down, and shall be cast into the fire. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
20 Wherefore by their fruits you shall know them. Thus you will recognize them by their fruits. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
21 Not every one that saith to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven: but he that doth the will of my Father who is in heaven, he shall enter into the kingdom of heaven. “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day: Lord, Lord, have not we prophesied in thy name, and cast out devils in thy name, and done many miracles in thy name? On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity. And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
24 Every one therefore that heareth these my words, and doth them, shall be likened to a wise man that built his house upon a rock, “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and they beat upon that house, and it fell not, for it was founded on a rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
26 And every one that heareth these my words, and doth them not, shall be like a foolish man that built his house upon the sand, And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.
27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and they beat upon that house, and it fell, and great was the fall thereof. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
28 And it came to pass when Jesus had fully ended these words, the people were in admiration at his doctrine. And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching,
29 For he was teaching them as one having power, and not as the scribes and Pharisees. for he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes. because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
