1 And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and preach in their cities. When Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in their cities. 5 the blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good tidings preached to them. the blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them. The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.
6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall find none occasion of stumbling in me. And blessed is the one who is not offended by me.” Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.”
7 And as these went their way, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to behold? a reed shaken with the wind? As they went away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds concerning John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? As John’s disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swayed by the wind?
8 But what went ye out for to see? a man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they that wear soft raiment are in kings' houses. What then did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothing? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses. If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear fine clothes are in kings’ palaces.
9 But wherefore went ye out? to see a prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet. What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.
10 This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, Who shall prepare thy way before thee. This is he of whom it is written, “‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’ This is the one about whom it is written: “’I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.’
11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not arisen a greater than John the Baptist: yet he that is but little in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has arisen no one greater than John the Baptist. Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and men of violence take it by force. From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and the violent take it by force. From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been subjected to violence, and violent people have been raiding it.
13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John, For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John.
14 And if ye are willing to receive it, this is Elijah, which is to come. and if you are willing to accept it, he is Elijah who is to come. And if you are willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who was to come.
15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. He who has ears to hear, let him hear. Whoever has ears, let them hear.
16 But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the marketplaces, which call unto their fellows, “But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to their playmates, “To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others:
17 and say, We piped unto you, and ye did not dance; we wailed, and ye did not mourn. “‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.’ “’We played the pipe for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.’

19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold, a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners! And wisdom is justified by her works. The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look at him! A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds.” The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is proved right by her deeds.”
20 Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not. Then he began to denounce the cities where most of his mighty works had been done, because they did not repent. Then Jesus began to denounce the towns in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent.
21 Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
22 Howbeit I say unto you, it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment, than for you. But I tell you, it will be more bearable on the day of judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you. But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.
23 And thou, Capernaum, shalt thou be exalted unto heaven? thou shalt go down unto Hades: for if the mighty works had been done in Sodom which were done in thee, it would have remained until this day. And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You will be brought down to Hades. For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades. For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day.
24 Howbeit I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee. But I tell you that it will be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom than for you.” But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.”
25 At that season Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou didst hide these things from the wise and understanding, and didst reveal them unto babes: At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.
26 yea, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in thy sight. yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.
27 All things have been delivered unto me of my Father: and no one knoweth the Son, save the Father; neither doth any know the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son willeth to reveal him. All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. “All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
