1 Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, To those called, having been loved in God the Father and having been kept in Jesus Christ. Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James, To those who are called, beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ: Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James, To those who have been called, who are loved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ:
2 Mercy and peace and love be multiplied to you⁺. May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you. Mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance.
3 Beloved, using all diligence to write to you⁺ concerning our common salvation, I had necessity to write to you⁺, exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith having been delivered once for all to the saints. Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.
4 For certain men came in stealthily, those having been designated long ago unto this judgment, ungodly ones changing the grace of our God into sensuality and denying our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.
5 Now I want to remind you⁺—you⁺ knowing all things once for all—that Jesus, having saved a people out of the land of Egypt, secondly destroyed those not having believed. Now I want to remind you, although you once fully knew it, that Jesus, who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord at one time delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe.
6 And the angels not having kept their domain, but having abandoned their own dwelling, He has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness unto the judgment of the great day, And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day— And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling—these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.
7 as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, in like manner to these having indulged in sexual immorality and having gone after other flesh, are set forth as an example, undergoing the penalty of eternal fire. just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire. In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.
8 Yet likewise also these dreaming ones indeed defile the flesh, and set aside authority, and blaspheme glorious ones. Yet in like manner these people also, relying on their dreams, defile the flesh, reject authority, and blaspheme the glorious ones. In the very same way, on the strength of their dreams these ungodly people pollute their own bodies, reject authority and heap abuse on celestial beings.
9 But Michael the archangel, when disputing with the devil, reasoning about the body of Moses, did not dare to bring against him a judgment of blasphemy, but he said, “The Lord rebuke you!” But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said, “The Lord rebuke you.” But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not himself dare to condemn him for slander but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”
10 But these indeed blaspheme whatever things they have not seen; and whatever things they understand naturally, as the irrational animals, in these things they corrupt themselves. But these people blaspheme all that they do not understand, and they are destroyed by all that they, like unreasoning animals, understand instinctively. Yet these people slander whatever they do not understand, and the very things they do understand by instinct—as irrational animals do—will destroy them.
11 Woe to them, because they went in the way of Cain, and they rushed for profit to the error of Balaam, and they perished in the rebellion of Korah. Woe to them! For they walked in the way of Cain and abandoned themselves for the sake of gain to Balaam’s error and perished in Korah’s rebellion. Woe to them! They have taken the way of Cain; they have rushed for profit into Balaam’s error; they have been destroyed in Korah’s rebellion.
12 These are the ones in your⁺ love feasts, hidden reefs feasting with you fearlessly, shepherding themselves; clouds without waters, being carried about by winds; autumnal trees without fruit, twice having died, having been uprooted; These are hidden reefs at your love feasts, as they feast with you without fear, shepherds feeding themselves; waterless clouds, swept along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twice dead, uprooted; These people are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualm—shepherds who feed only themselves. They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted—twice dead.
13 wild waves of the sea, foaming out of their shame; wandering stars, for whom the gloom of darkness has been kept unto the age. wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of their own shame; wandering stars, for whom the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved forever. They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever.
14 And Enoch, the seventh from Adam, also prophesied as to these, saying: “Behold, the Lord came amidst myriads of His holy ones, It was also about these that Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his holy ones, Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about them: “See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones
15 to do judgment against all, and to convict all the ungodly concerning all their works of ungodliness that they did in an ungodly way, and concerning all the harsh things that ungodly sinners spoke against Him.” to execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly of all their deeds of ungodliness that they have committed in such an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.” to judge everyone, and to convict all of them of all the ungodly acts they have committed in their ungodliness, and of all the defiant words ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”
16 These are grumblers, discontented, going according to their own passions; and their mouth speaks great swelling words, flattering faces for the sake of profit. These are grumblers, malcontents, following their own sinful desires; they are loud-mouthed boasters, showing favoritism to gain advantage. These people are grumblers and faultfinders; they follow their own evil desires; they boast about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage.
17 But you⁺, beloved, remember the words having been spoken beforehand by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold.
18 that they were saying to you⁺, “In the last time there will be scoffers, going according to their own passions of ungodlinesses.” They said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.” They said to you, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.”
19 These are those causing divisions, natural men, not having the Spirit. It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit. These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.
20 But you⁺, beloved, building up yourselves in your⁺ most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit,
21 keep yourselves in the love of God, awaiting the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.
22 And indeed have mercy on those who are doubting; And have mercy on those who doubt; Be merciful to those who doubt;
23 and save others, snatching them out of the fire; and show mercy to others with fear, hating even the clothing having been stained from the flesh. save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh. save others by snatching them from the fire; to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.
24 Now to Him being able to keep you⁺ from stumbling and to present you blameless in the presence of His glory, with exultation— Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy—
25 to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and to all the ages. Amen. to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen. to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.
