39 Καὶ εἶπεν Ἰησοῦς Εἰς κρίμα ἐγὼ εἰς τὸν κόσμον τοῦτον ἦλθον ἵνα οἱ μὴ βλέποντες βλέπωσιν καὶ οἱ βλέποντες τυφλοὶ γένωνται Jesus said, “For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind.” Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.”
40 ἤκουσαν ἐκ τῶν Φαρισαίων ταῦτα οἱ μετ’ αὐτοῦ ὄντες καὶ εἶπον* αὐτῷ Μὴ καὶ ἡμεῖς τυφλοί ἐσμεν Some of the Pharisees near him heard these things, and said to him, “Are we also blind?” Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked, “What? Are we blind too?”
41 Εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Ἰησοῦς Εἰ τυφλοὶ ἦτε οὐκ ἂν εἴχετε ἁμαρτίαν νῦν δὲ λέγετε ὅτι Βλέπομεν ἁμαρτία ὑμῶν μένει Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say, ‘We see,’ your guilt remains. Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.
