1	AND Jesus went unto mount Olivet.	but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.	but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
2	And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him, and sitting down he taught them.	Early in the morning he came again to the temple. All the people came to him, and he sat down and taught them.	At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them.
3	And the scribes and the Pharisees bring unto him a woman taken in adultery: and they set her in the midst,	The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, and placing her in the midst	The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group
4	And said to him: Master, this woman was even now taken in adultery.	they said to him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery.	and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery.
5	Now Moses in the law commanded us to stone such a one. But what sayest thou?	Now in the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?”	In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women.Now what do you say?”
6	And this they said tempting him, that they might accuse him. But Jesus bowing himself down, wrote with his finger on the ground.	This they said to test him, that they might have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground.	They were using this question as a trap,in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger.
7	When therefore they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said to them: He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.	And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.”	When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.”
8	And again stooping down, he wrote on the ground.	And once more he bent down and wrote on the ground.	Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.
9	But they hearing this, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest. And Jesus alone remained, and the woman standing in the midst.	But when they heard it, they went away one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him.	At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there.
10	Then Jesus lifting up himself, said to her: Woman, where are they that accused thee? Hath no man condemned thee?	Jesus stood up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”	Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”
11	Who said: No man, Lord. And Jesus said: Neither will I condemn thee. Go, and now sin no more.	She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.” ]]	“No one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,\|Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”
12	Again therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying: I am the light of the world: he that followeth me, walketh not in darkness, but shall have the light of life.	Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”	When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
13	The Pharisees therefore said to him: Thou givest testimony of thyself: thy testimony is not true.	So the Pharisees said to him, “You are bearing witness about yourself; your testimony is not true.”	The Pharisees challenged him, “Here you are, appearing as your own witness; your testimony is not valid.”
14	Jesus answered, and said to them: Although I give testimony of myself, my testimony is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go: but you know not whence I come, or whither I go.	Jesus answered, “Even if I do bear witness about myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going, but you do not know where I come from or where I am going.	Jesus answered, “Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid, for I know where I came from and where I am going. But you have no idea where I come from or where I am going.
15	You judge according to the flesh: I judge not any man.	You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one.	You judge by human standards; I pass judgment on no one.
16	And if I do judge, my judgment is true: because I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.	Yet even if I do judge, my judgment is true, for it is not I alone who judge, but I and the Father who sent me.	But if I do judge, my decisions are true, because I am not alone. I stand with the Father, who sent me.
17	And in your law it is written, that the testimony of two men is true.	In your Law it is written that the testimony of two people is true.	In your own Law it is written that the testimony of two witnesses is true.
18	I am one that give testimony of myself: and the Father that sent me giveth testimony of me.	I am the one who bears witness about myself, and the Father who sent me bears witness about me.”	I am one who testifies for myself; my other witness is the Father, who sent me.”
19	They said therefore to him: Where is thy Father? Jesus answered: Neither me do you know, nor my Father: if you did know me, perhaps you would know my Father also.	They said to him therefore, “Where is your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither me nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also.”	Then they asked him, “Where is your father?” “You do not know me or my Father,” Jesus replied. “If you knew me, you would know my Father also.”
20	These words Jesus spoke in the treasury, teaching in the temple: and no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.	These words he spoke in the treasury, as he taught in the temple; but no one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come.	He spoke these words while teaching in the temple courts near the place where the offerings were put. Yet no one seized him, because his hour had not yet come.
21	Again therefore Jesus said to them: I go, and you shall seek me, and you shall die in your sin. Whither I go, you cannot come.	So he said to them again, “I am going away, and you will seek me, and you will die in your sin. Where I am going, you cannot come.”	Once more Jesus said to them, “I am going away, and you will look for me, and you will die in your sin. Where I go, you cannot come.”
22	The Jews therefore said: Will he kill himself, because he said: Whither I go, you cannot come?	So the Jews said, “Will he kill himself, since he says, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come’?”	This made the Jews ask, “Will he kill himself? Is that why he says, ‘Where I go, you cannot come’?”
23	And he said to them: You are from beneath, I am from above. You are of this world, I am not of this world.	He said to them, “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.	But he continued, “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.
24	Therefore I said to you, that you shall die in your sins. For if you believe not that I am he, you shall die in your sin.	I told you that you would die in your sins, for unless you believe that I am he you will die in your sins.”	I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am he, you will indeed die in your sins.”
25	They said therefore to him: Who art thou? Jesus said to them: The beginning, who also speak unto you.	So they said to him, “Who are you?” Jesus said to them, “Just what I have been telling you from the beginning.	“Who are you?” they asked. “Just what I have been telling you from the beginning,” Jesus replied.
26	Many things I have to speak and to judge of you. But he that sent me, is true: and the things I have heard of him, these same I speak in the world.	I have much to say about you and much to judge, but he who sent me is true, and I declare to the world what I have heard from him.”	“I have much to say in judgment of you. But he who sent me is trustworthy, and what I have heard from him I tell the world.”
27	And they understood not, that he called God his Father.	They did not understand that he had been speaking to them about the Father.	They did not understand that he was telling them about his Father.
28	Jesus therefore said to them: When you shall have lifted up the Son of man, then shall you know, that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself, but as the Father hath taught me, these things I speak:	So Jesus said to them, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own authority, but speak just as the Father taught me.	So Jesus said, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me.
29	And he that sent me, is with me, and he hath not left me alone: for I do always the things that please him.	And he who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him.”	The one who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases him.”
30	When he spoke these things, many believed in him.	As he was saying these things, many believed in him.	Even as he spoke, many believed in him.
31	Then Jesus said to those Jews, who believed him: If you continue in my word, you shall be my disciples indeed.	So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples,	To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.
32	And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.	and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”	Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
33	They answered him: We are the seed of Abraham, and we have never been slaves to any man: how sayest thou: you shall be free?	They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?”	They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”
34	Jesus answered them: Amen, amen I say unto you: that whosoever committeth sin, is the servant of sin.	Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin.	Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.
35	Now the servant abideth not in the house for ever; but the son abideth for ever.	The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever.	Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever.
36	If therefore the son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.	So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.	So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
37	I know that you are the children of Abraham: but you seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.	I know that you are offspring of Abraham; yet you seek to kill me because my word finds no place in you.	I know that you are Abraham’s descendants. Yet you are looking for a way to kill me, because you have no room for my word.
38	I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and you do the things that you have seen with your father.	I speak of what I have seen with my Father, and you do what you have heard from your father.”	I am telling you what I have seen in the Father’s presence, and you are doing what you have heard from your father.”
39	They answered, and said to him: Abraham is our father. Jesus saith to them: If you be the children of Abraham, do the works of Abraham.	They answered him, “Abraham is our father.” Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham’s children, you would be doing the works Abraham did,	“Abraham is our father,” they answered. “If you were Abraham’s children,” said Jesus, “then you would do what Abraham did.
40	But now you seek to kill me, a man who have spoken the truth to you, which I have heard of God. This Abraham did not.	but now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did.	As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things.
41	You do the works of your father. They said therefore to him: We are not born of fornication: we have one Father, even God.	You are doing the works your father did.” They said to him, “We were not born of sexual immorality. We have one Father—even God.”	You are doing the works of your own father.” “We are not illegitimate children,” they protested. “The only Father we have is God himself.”
42	Jesus therefore said to them: If God were your Father, you would indeed love me. For from God I proceeded, and came; for I came not of myself, but he sent me:	Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and I am here. I came not of my own accord, but he sent me.	Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me.
43	Why do you not know my speech? Because you cannot hear my word.	Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word.	Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say.
44	You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and he stood not in the truth; because truth is not in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father thereof.	You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.	You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
45	But if I say the truth, you believe me not.	But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me.	Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me!
46	Which of you shall convince me of sin? If I say the truth to you, why do you not believe me?	Which one of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me?	Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me?
47	He that is of God, heareth the words of God. Therefore you hear them not, because you are not of God.	Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.”	Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”
48	The Jews therefore answered, and said to him: Do not we say well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?	The Jews answered him, “Are we not right in saying that you are a Samaritan and have a demon?”	The Jews answered him, “Aren’t we right in saying that you are a Samaritan and demon-possessed?”
49	Jesus answered: I have not a devil: but I honour my Father, and you have dishonoured me.	Jesus answered, “I do not have a demon, but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me.	“I am not possessed by a demon,” said Jesus, “but I honor my Father and you dishonor me.
50	But I seek not my own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.	Yet I do not seek my own glory; there is One who seeks it, and he is the judge.	I am not seeking glory for myself; but there is one who seeks it, and he is the judge.
51	Amen, amen I say to you: If any man keep my word, he shall not see death for ever.	Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death.”	Very truly I tell you, whoever obeys my word will never see death.”
52	The Jews therefore said: Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest: If any man keep my word, he shall not taste death for ever.	The Jews said to him, “Now we know that you have a demon! Abraham died, as did the prophets, yet you say, ‘If anyone keeps my word, he will never taste death.’	At this they exclaimed, “Now we know that you are demon-possessed! Abraham died and so did the prophets, yet you say that whoever obeys your word will never taste death.
53	Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? and the prophets are dead. Whom dost thou make thyself?	Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? And the prophets died! Who do you make yourself out to be?”	Are you greater than our father Abraham? He died, and so did the prophets. Who do you think you are?”
54	Jesus answered: If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father that glorifieth me, of whom you say that he is your God.	Jesus answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say, ‘He is our God.’	Jesus replied, “If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies me.
55	And you have not known him, but I know him. And if I shall say that I know him not, I shall be like to you, a liar. But I do know him, and do keep his word.	But you have not known him. I know him. If I were to say that I do not know him, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and I keep his word.	Though you do not know him, I know him. If I said I did not, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and obey his word.
56	Abraham your father rejoiced that he might see my day: he saw it, and was glad.	Your father Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day. He saw it and was glad.”	Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad.”
57	The Jews therefore said to him: Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?	So the Jews said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?”	“You are not yet fifty years old,” they said to him, “and you have seen Abraham!”
58	Jesus said to them: Amen, amen I say to you, before Abraham was made, I am.	Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.”	“Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!”
59	They took up stones therefore to cast at him. But Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple.	So they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.	At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds.
