39 Ἐζήτουν οὖν αὐτὸν πάλιν πιάσαι καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ἐκ τῆς χειρὸς αὐτῶν Again they sought to arrest him, but he escaped from their hands. Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped their grasp.
40 Καὶ ἀπῆλθεν πάλιν πέραν τοῦ Ἰορδάνου εἰς τὸν τόπον ὅπου ἦν Ἰωάννης τὸ πρῶτον βαπτίζων καὶ ἔμεινεν* ἐκεῖ He went away again across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing at first, and there he remained. Then Jesus went back across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing in the early days. There he stayed,
41 καὶ πολλοὶ ἦλθον πρὸς αὐτὸν καὶ ἔλεγον ὅτι Ἰωάννης μὲν σημεῖον ἐποίησεν οὐδέν πάντα δὲ ὅσα εἶπεν Ἰωάννης περὶ τούτου ἀληθῆ ἦν And many came to him. And they said, “John did no sign, but everything that John said about this man was true.” and many people came to him. They said, “Though John never performed a sign, all that John said about this man was true.”
42 καὶ πολλοὶ ἐπίστευσαν εἰς αὐτὸν ἐκεῖ And many believed in him there. And in that place many believed in Jesus.
