1 The LORD said to Moses, |You and Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and 70 of Israel's leaders come up the mountain to me and worship at a distance. Then he said to Moses, “Come up to the LORD, you and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, and worship from afar. Then the LORD said to Moses, “Come up to the LORD, you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel. You are to worship at a distance,
2 Moses may come near the LORD, but the others may not. The people must not come along with Moses.| Moses alone shall come near to the LORD, but the others shall not come near, and the people shall not come up with him.” but Moses alone is to approach the LORD; the others must not come near. And the people may not come up with him.”
3 Moses went and told the people all the LORD's words and legal decisions. Then all the people answered with one voice, |We will do everything the LORD has told us to do.| Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD and all the rules. And all the people answered with one voice and said, “All the words that the LORD has spoken we will do.” When Moses went and told the people all the LORD’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the LORD has said we will do.”
4 So Moses wrote down all the LORD's words. Early the next morning he built an altar at the foot of the mountain and [set up] 12 sacred stones for the 12 tribes of Israel. And Moses wrote down all the words of the LORD. He rose early in the morning and built an altar at the foot of the mountain, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel. Moses then wrote down everything the LORD had said. He got up early the next morning and built an altar at the foot of the mountain and set up twelve stone pillars representing the twelve tribes of Israel.
5 Then he sent young Israelite men, and they sacrificed bulls as burnt offerings and fellowship offerings to the LORD. And he sent young men of the people of Israel, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen to the LORD. Then he sent young Israelite men, and they offered burnt offerings and sacrificed young bulls as fellowship offerings to the LORD.
6 Moses took half of the blood and put it into bowls, and he threw the other half against the altar. And Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and half of the blood he threw against the altar. Moses took half of the blood and put it in bowls, and the other half he splashed against the altar.
7 Then he took the Book of the LORD's Promise and read it while the people listened. They said, |We will obey and do everything the LORD has said.| Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it in the hearing of the people. And they said, “All that the LORD has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient.” Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, “We will do everything the LORD has said; we will obey.”
8 Moses took the blood and sprinkled it on the people and said, |Here is the blood which seals the promise that the LORD has made to you based on everything you have just heard.| And Moses took the blood and threw it on the people and said, “Behold the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words.” Moses then took the blood, sprinkled it on the people and said, “This is the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words.”
9 Moses went up with Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and 70 of Israel's leaders. Then Moses and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel went up, Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel went up
10 They saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something like a pavement made out of sapphire as clear and blue as the sky itself. and they saw the God of Israel. There was under his feet as it were a pavement of sapphire stone, like the very heaven for clearness. and saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something like a pavement made of lapis lazuli, as bright blue as the sky.
11 God didn't harm these leaders of the Israelites. So they saw God, and then they ate and drank. And he did not lay his hand on the chief men of the people of Israel; they beheld God, and ate and drank. But God did not raise his hand against these leaders of the Israelites; they saw God, and they ate and drank.
12 The LORD said to Moses, |Come up to me on the mountain. Stay there, and I will give you the stone tablets with the teachings and the commandments I have written for the people's instruction.| The LORD said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain and wait there, that I may give you the tablets of stone, with the law and the commandment, which I have written for their instruction.” The LORD said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone with the law and commandments I have written for their instruction.”
13 Moses set out with his assistant Joshua, and Moses went up on the mountain of God. So Moses rose with his assistant Joshua, and Moses went up into the mountain of God. Then Moses set out with Joshua his aide, and Moses went up on the mountain of God.
14 He said to the leaders, |Wait here for us until we come back to you. Aaron and Hur are here with you. Take all your disagreements to them.| And he said to the elders, “Wait here for us until we return to you. And behold, Aaron and Hur are with you. Whoever has a dispute, let him go to them.” He said to the elders, “Wait here for us until we come back to you. Aaron and Hur are with you, and anyone involved in a dispute can go to them.”
15 So Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered it. Then Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. When Moses went up on the mountain, the cloud covered it,
16 The glory of the LORD settled on Mount Sinai. For six days the cloud covered it, and on the seventh day the LORD called to Moses from inside the cloud. The glory of the LORD dwelt on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. And on the seventh day he called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud. and the glory of the LORD settled on Mount Sinai. For six days the cloud covered the mountain, and on the seventh day the LORD called to Moses from within the cloud.
17 To the Israelites, the glory of the LORD looked like a raging fire on top of the mountain. Now the appearance of the glory of the LORD was like a devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the sight of the people of Israel. To the Israelites the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain.
18 Moses entered the cloud as he went up the mountain. He stayed on the mountain 40 days and 40 nights. Moses entered the cloud and went up on the mountain. And Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights. Then Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights.
