In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia, a message was revealed to Daniel, who was called Belteshazzar. The message was true, and it concerned a great conflict. And the understanding of the message was given to him in a vision. | In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a word was revealed to Daniel, who was named Belteshazzar. And the word was true, and it was a great conflict. And he understood the word and had understanding of the vision. | In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing was true, but the time appointed was long: and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision. | In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia, a revelation was given to Daniel (who was called Belteshazzar). Its message was true and it concerned a great war. The understanding of the message came to him in a vision. | In the third year of the reign of King Cyrus of Persia, Daniel (also known as Belteshazzar) had another vision. He understood that the vision concerned events certain to happen in the future—times of war and great hardship.
In those days I, Daniel, was mourning for three full weeks. | In those days I, Daniel, was mourning for three weeks. | In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks. | At that time I, Daniel, mourned for three weeks. | When this vision came to me, I, Daniel, had been in mourning for three whole weeks.
I ate no rich food, no meat or wine entered my mouth, and I did not anoint myself with oil until the three weeks were completed. | I ate no delicacies, no meat or wine entered my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, for the full three weeks. | I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled. | I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips; and I used no lotions at all until the three weeks were over. | All that time I had eaten no rich food. No meat or wine crossed my lips, and I used no fragrant lotions until those three weeks had passed.
On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was standing on the bank of the great river, the Tigris, | On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was standing on the bank of the great river (that is, the Tigris) | And in the four and twentieth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, which is Hiddekel; | On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was standing on the bank of the great river, the Tigris, | On April 23, as I was standing on the bank of the great Tigris River,
I lifted up my eyes, and behold, there was a certain man dressed in linen, with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around his waist. | I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, a man clothed in linen, with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around his waist. | Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz: | I looked up and there before me was a man dressed in linen, with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around his waist. | I looked up and saw a man dressed in linen clothing, with a belt of pure gold around his waist.
His body was like beryl, his face like the brilliance of lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of polished bronze, and his voice like the sound of a multitude. | His body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and the sound of his words like the sound of a multitude. | His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude. | His body was like topaz, his face like lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and his voice like the sound of a multitude. | His body looked like a precious gem. His face flashed like lightning, and his eyes flamed like torches. His arms and feet shone like polished bronze, and his voice roared like a vast multitude of people.
Only I, Daniel, saw the vision; the men with me did not see it, but a great terror fell upon them, and they ran and hid themselves. | And I, Daniel, alone saw the vision, for the men who were with me did not see the vision, but a great trembling fell upon them, and they fled to hide themselves. | And I Daniel alone saw the vision: for the men that were with me saw not the vision; but a great quaking fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves. | I, Daniel, was the only one who saw the vision; those who were with me did not see it, but such terror overwhelmed them that they fled and hid themselves. | Only I, Daniel, saw this vision. The men with me saw nothing, but they were suddenly terrified and ran away to hide.
So I was left alone, gazing at this great vision. No strength remained in me; my face grew deathly pale, and I was powerless. | So I was left alone and saw this great vision, and no strength was left in me. My radiant appearance was fearfully changed, and I retained no strength. | Therefore I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me: for my comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I retained no strength. | So I was left alone, gazing at this great vision; I had no strength left, my face turned deathly pale and I was helpless. | So I was left there all alone to see this amazing vision. My strength left me, my face grew deathly pale, and I felt very weak.
I heard the sound of his words, and as I listened, I fell into a deep sleep, with my face to the ground. | Then I heard the sound of his words, and as I heard the sound of his words, I fell on my face in deep sleep with my face to the ground. | Yet heard I the voice of his words: and when I heard the voice of his words, then was I in a deep sleep on my face, and my face toward the ground. | Then I heard him speaking, and as I listened to him, I fell into a deep sleep, my face to the ground. | Then I heard the man speak, and when I heard the sound of his voice, I fainted and lay there with my face to the ground.
Suddenly, a hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees. | And behold, a hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees. | And, behold, an hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands. | A hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees. | Just then a hand touched me and lifted me, still trembling, to my hands and knees.
He said to me, “Daniel, you are a man who is highly precious. Consider carefully the words that I am about to say to you. Stand up, for I have now been sent to you.” And when he had said this to me, I stood up trembling. | And he said to me, “O Daniel, man greatly loved, understand the words that I speak to you, and stand upright, for now I have been sent to you.” And when he had spoken this word to me, I stood up trembling. | And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling. | He said, “Daniel, you who are highly esteemed, consider carefully the words I am about to speak to you, and stand up, for I have now been sent to you.” And when he said this to me, I stood up trembling. | And the man said to me, “Daniel, you are very precious to God, so listen carefully to what I have to say to you. Stand up, for I have been sent to you.” When he said this to me, I stood up, still trembling.
“Do not be afraid, Daniel,” he said, “for from the first day that you purposed to understand and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them. | Then he said to me, “Fear not, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand and humbled yourself before your God, your words have been heard, and I have come because of your words. | Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words. | Then he continued, “Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them. | Then he said, “Don’t be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day you began to pray for understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your request has been heard in heaven. I have come in answer to your prayer.
However, the prince of the kingdom of Persia opposed me for twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia. | The prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days, but Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I was left there with the kings of Persia, | But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia. | But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia. | But for twenty-one days the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia blocked my way. Then Michael, one of the archangels, came to help me, and I left him there with the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia.
Now I have come to explain to you what will happen to your people in the latter days, for the vision concerns those days.” | and came to make you understand what is to happen to your people in the latter days. For the vision is for days yet to come.” | Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days. | Now I have come to explain to you what will happen to your people in the future, for the vision concerns a time yet to come.” | Now I am here to explain what will happen to your people in the future, for this vision concerns a time yet to come.”
While he was speaking these words to me, I set my face toward the ground and became speechless. | When he had spoken to me according to these words, I turned my face toward the ground and was mute. | And when he had spoken such words unto me, I set my face toward the ground, and I became dumb. | While he was saying this to me, I bowed with my face toward the ground and was speechless. | While he was speaking to me, I looked down at the ground, unable to say a word.
And suddenly one with the likeness of a man touched my lips, and I opened my mouth and said to the one standing before me, “My lord, because of the vision, I am overcome with anguish, and I have no strength. | And behold, one in the likeness of the children of man touched my lips. Then I opened my mouth and spoke. I said to him who stood before me, “O my lord, by reason of the vision pains have come upon me, and I retain no strength. | And, behold, one like the similitude of the sons of men touched my lips: then I opened my mouth, and spake, and said unto him that stood before me, O my lord, by the vision my sorrows are turned upon me, and I have retained no strength. | Then one who looked like a man touched my lips, and I opened my mouth and began to speak. I said to the one standing before me, “I am overcome with anguish because of the vision, my lord, and I feel very weak. | Then the one who looked like a man touched my lips, and I opened my mouth and began to speak. I said to the one standing in front of me, “I am filled with anguish because of the vision I have seen, my lord, and I am very weak.
How can I, your servant, speak with you, my lord? Now I have no strength, nor is any breath left in me.” | How can my lord’s servant talk with my lord? For now no strength remains in me, and no breath is left in me.” | For how can the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? for as for me, straightway there remained no strength in me, neither is there breath left in me. | How can I, your servant, talk with you, my lord? My strength is gone and I can hardly breathe.” | How can someone like me, your servant, talk to you, my lord? My strength is gone, and I can hardly breathe.”
Again the one with the likeness of a man touched me and strengthened me. | Again one having the appearance of a man touched me and strengthened me. | Then there came again and touched me one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me, | Again the one who looked like a man touched me and gave me strength. | Then the one who looked like a man touched me again, and I felt my strength returning.
“Do not be afraid, you who are highly precious,” he said. “Peace be with you! Be strong now; be very strong!” As he spoke with me, I was strengthened and said, “Speak, my lord, for you have strengthened me.” | And he said, “O man greatly loved, fear not, peace be with you; be strong and of good courage.” And as he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, “Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.” | And said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me. | “Do not be afraid, you who are highly esteemed,” he said. “Peace! Be strong now; be strong.” When he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, “Speak, my lord, since you have given me strength.” | “Don’t be afraid,” he said, “for you are very precious to God. Peace! Be encouraged! Be strong!” As he spoke these words to me, I suddenly felt stronger and said to him, “Please speak to me, my lord, for you have strengthened me.”
“Do you know why I have come to you?” he said. “I must return at once to fight against the prince of Persia, and when I have gone forth, behold, the prince of Greece will come. | Then he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? But now I will return to fight against the prince of Persia; and when I go out, behold, the prince of Greece will come. | Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of Grecia shall come. | So he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? Soon I will return to fight against the prince of Persia, and when I go, the prince of Greece will come; | He replied, “Do you know why I have come? Soon I must return to fight against the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia, and after that the spirit prince of the kingdom of Greece will come.
But first I will tell you what is inscribed in the Book of Truth. Yet no one has the courage to support me against these, except Michael your prince. | But I will tell you what is inscribed in the book of truth: there is none who contends by my side against these except Michael, your prince. | But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince. | but first I will tell you what is written in the Book of Truth. (No one supports me against them except Michael, your prince. | Meanwhile, I will tell you what is written in the Book of Truth. (No one helps me against these spirit princes except Michael, your spirit prince.
