1 Peter and John were going up into the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon.
2 A certain man who was lame from his mother’s womb was being carried, whom they laid daily at the door of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask gifts for the needy of those who entered into the temple. And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate to ask alms of those entering the temple. Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts.
3 Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive gifts for the needy. Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive alms. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money.
4 Peter, fastening his eyes on him, with John, said, “Look at us.” And Peter directed his gaze at him, as did John, and said, “Look at us.” Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!”
5 He listened to them, expecting to receive something from them. And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them. So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them.
6 But Peter said, “I have no silver or gold, but what I have, that I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk!” But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.”
7 He took him by the right hand and raised him up. Immediately his feet and his ankle bones received strength. And he took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong.
8 Leaping up, he stood and began to walk. He entered with them into the temple, walking, leaping, and praising God. And leaping up, he stood and began to walk, and entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God.
9 All the people saw him walking and praising God. And all the people saw him walking and praising God, When all the people saw him walking and praising God,
10 They recognized him, that it was he who used to sit begging for gifts for the needy at the Beautiful Gate of the temple. They were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. and recognized him as the one who sat at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, asking for alms. And they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
11 As the lame man who was healed held on to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the porch that is called Solomon’s, greatly wondering. While he clung to Peter and John, all the people, utterly astounded, ran together to them in the portico called Solomon’s. While the man held on to Peter and John, all the people were astonished and came running to them in the place called Solomon’s Colonnade.
12 When Peter saw it, he responded to the people, “You men of Israel, why do you marvel at this man? Why do you fasten your eyes on us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made him walk? And when Peter saw it he addressed the people: “Men of Israel, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we have made him walk? When Peter saw this, he said to them: “Fellow Israelites, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk?
13 The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his Servant Jesus, whom you delivered up and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had determined to release him. The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified his servant Jesus, whom you delivered over and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release him. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus. You handed him over to be killed, and you disowned him before Pilate, though he had decided to let him go.
14 But you denied the Holy and Righteous One and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, But you denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, You disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you.
15 and killed the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead, to which we are witnesses. and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses. You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of this.
16 By faith in his name, his name has made this man strong, whom you see and know. Yes, the faith which is through him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. And his name—by faith in his name—has made this man strong whom you see and know, and the faith that is through Jesus has given the man this perfect health in the presence of you all. By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through him that has completely healed him, as you can all see.
17 “Now, brothers, I know that you did this in ignorance, as did also your rulers. “And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did also your rulers. “Now, fellow Israelites, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did your leaders.
18 But the things which God announced by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he thus fulfilled. But what God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ would suffer, he thus fulfilled. But this is how God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets, saying that his Messiah would suffer.
19 “Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, so that there may come times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord, Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,
20 and that he may send Christ Jesus, who was ordained for you before, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, and that he may send the Messiah, who has been appointed for you—even Jesus.
21 whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God spoke long ago by the mouth of his holy prophets. whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago. Heaven must receive him until the time comes for God to restore everything, as he promised long ago through his holy prophets.
22 For Moses indeed said to the fathers, ‘The Lord God will raise up a prophet for you from among your brothers, like me. You shall listen to him in all things whatever he says to you. Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brothers. You shall listen to him in whatever he tells you. For Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you.
23 It will be that every soul that will not listen to that prophet will be utterly destroyed from among the people.’ And it shall be that every soul who does not listen to that prophet shall be destroyed from the people.’ Anyone who does not listen to him will be completely cut off from their people.’
24 Yes, and all the prophets from Samuel and those who followed after, as many as have spoken, also told of these days. And all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those who came after him, also proclaimed these days. “Indeed, beginning with Samuel, all the prophets who have spoken have foretold these days.
25 You are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘All the families of the earth will be blessed through your offspring.’ You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed.’ And you are heirs of the prophets and of the covenant God made with your fathers. He said to Abraham, ‘Through your offspring all peoples on earth will be blessed.’
26 God, having raised up his servant Jesus, sent him to you first to bless you, in turning away every one of you from your wickedness.” God, having raised up his servant, sent him to you first, to bless you by turning every one of you from your wickedness.” When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways.”
