1 NOW Peter and John went up into the temple at the ninth hour of prayer. Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon.
2 And a certain man who was lame from his mother's womb, was carried: whom they laid every day at the gate of the temple, which is called Beautiful, that he might ask alms of them that went into the temple. And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate to ask alms of those entering the temple. Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts.
3 He, when he had seen Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked to receive an alms. Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive alms. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money.
4 But Peter with John fastening his eyes upon him, said: Look upon us. And Peter directed his gaze at him, as did John, and said, “Look at us.” Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!”
5 But he looked earnestly upon them, hoping that he should receive something of them. And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them. So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them.
6 But Peter said: Silver and gold I have none; but what I have, I give thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, arise, and walk. But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.”
7 And taking him by the right hand, he lifted him up, and forthwith his feet and soles received strength. And he took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong.
8 And he leaping up, stood, and walked, and went in with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. And leaping up, he stood and began to walk, and entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God.
9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God. And all the people saw him walking and praising God, When all the people saw him walking and praising God,
10 And they knew him, that it was he who sat begging alms at the Beartiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened to him. and recognized him as the one who sat at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, asking for alms. And they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
11 And as he held Peter and John, all the people ran to them to the porch which is called Solomon's, greatly wondering. While he clung to Peter and John, all the people, utterly astounded, ran together to them in the portico called Solomon’s. While the man held on to Peter and John, all the people were astonished and came running to them in the place called Solomon’s Colonnade.
12 But Peter seeing, made answer to the people: Ye men of Israel, why wonder you at this? or why look you upon us, as if by our strength or power we had made this man to walk? And when Peter saw it he addressed the people: “Men of Israel, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we have made him walk? When Peter saw this, he said to them: “Fellow Israelites, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk?
13 The God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus, whom you indeed delivered up and denied before the face of Pilate, when he judged he should be released. The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified his servant Jesus, whom you delivered over and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release him. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus. You handed him over to be killed, and you disowned him before Pilate, though he had decided to let him go.
14 But you denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you. But you denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, You disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you.
15 But the author of life you killed, whom God hath raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses. and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses. You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of this.
16 And in the faith of his name, this man, whom you have seen and known, hath his name strengthened; and the faith which is by him, hath given this perfect soundness in the sight of you all. And his name—by faith in his name—has made this man strong whom you see and know, and the faith that is through Jesus has given the man this perfect health in the presence of you all. By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through him that has completely healed him, as you can all see.
17 And now, brethren, I know that you did it through ignorance, as did also your rulers. “And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did also your rulers. “Now, fellow Israelites, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did your leaders.
18 But those things which God before had shewed by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled. But what God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ would suffer, he thus fulfilled. But this is how God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets, saying that his Messiah would suffer.
19 Be penitent, therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out. Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,
20 That when the times of refreshment shall come from the presence of the Lord, and he shall send him who hath been preached unto you, Jesus Christ, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, and that he may send the Messiah, who has been appointed for you—even Jesus.
21 Whom heaven indeed must receive, until the times of the restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of his holy prophets, from the beginning of the world. whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago. Heaven must receive him until the time comes for God to restore everything, as he promised long ago through his holy prophets.
22 For Moses said: A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me: him you shall hear according to all things whatsoever he shall speak to you. Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brothers. You shall listen to him in whatever he tells you. For Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you.
23 And it shall be, that every soul which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people. And it shall be that every soul who does not listen to that prophet shall be destroyed from the people.’ Anyone who does not listen to him will be completely cut off from their people.’
24 And all the prophets, from Samuel and afterwards, who have spoken, have told of these days. And all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those who came after him, also proclaimed these days. “Indeed, beginning with Samuel, all the prophets who have spoken have foretold these days.
25 You are the children of the prophets, and of the testament which God made to our fathers, saying to Abraham: And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed.’ And you are heirs of the prophets and of the covenant God made with your fathers. He said to Abraham, ‘Through your offspring all peoples on earth will be blessed.’
26 To you first God, raising up his Son, hath sent him to bless you; that every one may convert himself from his wickedness. God, having raised up his servant, sent him to you first, to bless you by turning every one of you from your wickedness.” When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways.”
