1 Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour (3:00 p.m.), Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon.
2 and a man who had been unable to walk from birth was being carried along, whom they used to set down every day at that gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, so that he could beg alms from those entering the temple. And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate to ask alms of those entering the temple. Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts.
3 So when he saw Peter and John about to go into the temple, he began asking [them] for coins. Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive alms. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money.
4 But Peter, along with John, stared at him intently and said, “Look at us!” And Peter directed his gaze at him, as did John, and said, “Look at us.” Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!”
5 And the man began to pay attention to them, eagerly expecting to receive something from them. And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them. So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them.
6 But Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have; but what I do have I give to you: In the name (authority, power) of Jesus Christ the Nazarene—[begin now to] walk and go on walking!” But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.”
7 Then he seized the man’s right hand with a firm grip and raised him up. And at once his feet and ankles became strong and steady, And he took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong.
8 and with a leap he stood up and began to walk; and he went into the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. And leaping up, he stood and began to walk, and entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God.
9 All the people saw him walking and praising God; And all the people saw him walking and praising God, When all the people saw him walking and praising God,
10 and they recognized him as the very man who usually sat begging for coins at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, and they were filled with wonder and amazement and were mystified at what had happened to him. and recognized him as the one who sat at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, asking for alms. And they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
11 Now while he was still holding on to Peter and John, all the people, utterly amazed, ran together and crowded around them at the covered porch called Solomon’s portico. While he clung to Peter and John, all the people, utterly astounded, ran together to them in the portico called Solomon’s. While the man held on to Peter and John, all the people were astonished and came running to them in the place called Solomon’s Colonnade.
12 And Peter, seeing this, said to the people, “You men of Israel, why are you amazed at this? Why are you staring at us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk? And when Peter saw it he addressed the people: “Men of Israel, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we have made him walk? When Peter saw this, he said to them: “Fellow Israelites, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk?
13 The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His Servant and Son Jesus [doing Him this honor], the One whom you handed over and disowned and rejected before Pilate, when he had decided to release Him. The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified his servant Jesus, whom you delivered over and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release him. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus. You handed him over to be killed, and you disowned him before Pilate, though he had decided to let him go.
14 But you disowned and denied the Holy and Righteous One and asked for [the pardon of] a murderer to be granted to you. But you denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, You disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you.
15 But you killed the Prince (Author, Originator, Source) of life, whom God raised [bodily] from the dead. To this [fact] we are witnesses [for we have seen the risen Christ]. and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses. You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of this.
16 And on the basis of faith in His name, it is the name of Jesus which has strengthened this man whom you see and know; and the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect health and complete wholeness in your presence. And his name—by faith in his name—has made this man strong whom you see and know, and the faith that is through Jesus has given the man this perfect health in the presence of you all. By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through him that has completely healed him, as you can all see.
17 “Now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance [not fully aware of what you were doing], just as your rulers did also. “And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did also your rulers. “Now, fellow Israelites, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did your leaders.
18 And so God has fulfilled what He foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that His Christ (Messiah, Anointed) would suffer. But what God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ would suffer, he thus fulfilled. But this is how God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets, saying that his Messiah would suffer.
19 So repent [change your inner self—your old way of thinking, regret past sins] and return [to God—seek His purpose for your life], so that your sins may be wiped away [blotted out, completely erased], so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord [restoring you like a cool wind on a hot day]; Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,
20 and that He may send [to you] Jesus, the Christ, who has been appointed for you, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, and that he may send the Messiah, who has been appointed for you—even Jesus.
21 whom heaven must keep until the time for the [complete] restoration of all things about which God promised through the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient time. whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago. Heaven must receive him until the time comes for God to restore everything, as he promised long ago through his holy prophets.
22 Moses said, ‘THE LORD GOD WILL RAISE UP FOR YOU A PROPHET LIKE ME FROM YOUR COUNTRYMEN; YOU SHALL LISTEN TO HIM and OBEY everything He tells you. Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brothers. You shall listen to him in whatever he tells you. For Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you.
23 And it will be that every person that does not listen to and heed that Prophet will be utterly destroyed from among the people.’ And it shall be that every soul who does not listen to that prophet shall be destroyed from the people.’ Anyone who does not listen to him will be completely cut off from their people.’
24 Indeed, all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those who came after him, also announced these days. And all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those who came after him, also proclaimed these days. “Indeed, beginning with Samuel, all the prophets who have spoken have foretold these days.
25 You are the sons (descendants) of the prophets and [heirs] of the covenant which God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘AND IN YOUR SEED (descendant) ALL THE FAMILIES OF THE EARTH SHALL BE BLESSED.’ You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed.’ And you are heirs of the prophets and of the covenant God made with your fathers. He said to Abraham, ‘Through your offspring all peoples on earth will be blessed.’
26 It was for you first of all that God raised up His Servant and Son [Jesus], and sent Him to bless you by turning every one of you from your wicked ways.” God, having raised up his servant, sent him to you first, to bless you by turning every one of you from your wickedness.” When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways.”
