1	And Naaman commander of the army of the king of Aram was a great man in the eyes of his master, and was lifted of face, because by him YHWH had given deliverance to Aram. And the man was mighty in valor—a leper.	Naaman, commander of the army of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master and in high favor, because by him the LORD had given victory to Syria. He was a mighty man of valor, but he was a leper.	Now Naaman was commander of the army of the king of Aram. He was a great man in the sight of his master and highly regarded, because through him the LORD had given victory to Aram. He was a valiant soldier, but he had leprosy.
2	And Aram had gone out in bands, and had brought back captive from the land of Israel a young girl. And she waited before the face of the wife of Naaman.	Now the Syrians on one of their raids had carried off a little girl from the land of Israel, and she worked in the service of Naaman’s wife.	Now bands of raiders from Aram had gone out and had taken captive a young girl from Israel, and she served Naaman’s wife.
3	And she said to her mistress, “If only my master were with the prophet who is in Samaria, then he would heal him of his leprosy!”	She said to her mistress, “Would that my lord were with the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy.”	She said to her mistress, “If only my master would see the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy.”
4	And he went in and declared to his master, saying, “Thus and thus said the girl who is from the land of Israel.”	So Naaman went in and told his lord, “Thus and so spoke the girl from the land of Israel.”	Naaman went to his master and told him what the girl from Israel had said.
5	And the king of Aram said, “Go, enter, and I will send a letter to the king of Israel.” And he departed and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand shekels of gold, and ten changes of garments.	And the king of Syria said, “Go now, and I will send a letter to the king of Israel.” So he went, taking with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold, and ten changes of clothing.	“By all means, go,” the king of Aram replied. “I will send a letter to the king of Israel.” So Naaman left, taking with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold and ten sets of clothing.
6	And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, “And now when this letter comes to you, be advised that I have sent to you Naaman my servant, that you may heal him of his leprosy.”	And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, which read, “When this letter reaches you, know that I have sent to you Naaman my servant, that you may cure him of his leprosy.”	The letter that he took to the king of Israel read: “With this letter I am sending my servant Naaman to you so that you may cure him of his leprosy.”
7	And it came to pass, in the king of Israel reading the letter, that he tore his garments and said, “Am I God to kill and make alive, that this one sends to me to heal a man of his leprosy? Upon thus consider, please, and see how he is presenting himself to me.”	And when the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his clothes and said, “Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man sends word to me to cure a man of his leprosy? Only consider, and see how he is seeking a quarrel with me.”	As soon as the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his robes and said, “Am I God? Can I kill and bring back to life? Why does this fellow send someone to me to be cured of his leprosy? See how he is trying to pick a quarrel with me!”
8	And it came to pass, in Elisha the man of God hearing that the king of Israel had torn his garments, that he sent to the king, saying, “Why have you torn your garments? Let him come, please, to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.”	But when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, he sent to the king, saying, “Why have you torn your clothes? Let him come now to me, that he may know that there is a prophet in Israel.”	When Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his robes, he sent him this message: “Why have you torn your robes? Have the man come to me and he will know that there is a prophet in Israel.”
9	And Naaman went with his horses and with his chariot, and he stood at the door of the house of Elisha.	So Naaman came with his horses and chariots and stood at the door of Elisha’s house.	So Naaman went with his horses and chariots and stopped at the door of Elisha’s house.
10	And Elisha sent to him a messenger, saying, “Go and wash seven times in the Jordan, and your flesh shall be restored to you, and you shall be clean.”	And Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, “Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored, and you shall be clean.”	Elisha sent a messenger to say to him, “Go, wash yourself seven times in the Jordan, and your flesh will be restored and you will be cleansed.”
11	And Naaman became furious and went away and said, “Behold, I said to myself he would surely come out and stand, and call on the name of YHWH his God, and wave his hand over the place, and heal the leprosy.	But Naaman was angry and went away, saying, “Behold, I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call upon the name of the LORD his God, and wave his hand over the place and cure the leper.	But Naaman went away angry and said, “I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the LORD his God, wave his hand over the spot and cure me of my leprosy.
12	Are not the Abanah and the Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Could not I wash in them and be clean?” And he turned and went away in a rage.	Are not Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them and be clean?” So he turned and went away in a rage.	Are not Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Couldn’t I wash in them and be cleansed?” So he turned and went off in a rage.
13	And his servants came near and spoke to him, and said, “My father, if something great the prophet had spoken to you, would you not have done it? Then how much more when he says to you, ‘Wash and be clean’?”	But his servants came near and said to him, “My father, it is a great word the prophet has spoken to you; will you not do it? Has he actually said to you, ‘Wash, and be clean’?”	Naaman’s servants went to him and said, “My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he tells you, ‘Wash and be cleansed’!”
14	And he went down and dipped in the Jordan seven times, according to the saying of the man of God. And his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.	So he went down and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of the man of God, and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.	So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, as the man of God had told him, and his flesh was restored and became clean like that of a young boy.
15	And he returned to the man of God, he and all his camp, and came and stood before his face, and he said, “Behold, now I know that there is no God in all the earth for but in Israel. And now take please a gift from your servant.”	Then he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and he came and stood before him. And he said, “Behold, I know that there is no God in all the earth but in Israel; so accept now a present from your servant.”	Then Naaman and all his attendants went back to the man of God. He stood before him and said, “Now I know that there is no God in all the world except in Israel. So please accept a gift from your servant.”
16	And he said, “As YHWH lives, before whom I stand, I will receive nothing.” And he urged him to take it, and he refused.	But he said, “As the LORD lives, before whom I stand, I will receive none.” And he urged him to take it, but he refused.	The prophet answered, “As surely as the LORD lives, whom I serve, I will not accept a thing.” And even though Naaman urged him, he refused.
17	And Naaman said, “If not, let be given, please, to your servant a load of earth as a pair of mules, for your servant will offer not anymore either burnt offering or sacrifice to other gods, for but to YHWH.	Then Naaman said, “If not, please let there be given to your servant two mule loads of earth, for from now on your servant will not offer burnt offering or sacrifice to any god but the LORD.	“If you will not,” said Naaman, “please let me, your servant, be given as much earth as a pair of mules can carry, for your servant will never again make burnt offerings and sacrifices to any other god but the LORD.
18	In this thing may YHWH pardon your servant, when my master goes into the temple of Rimmon to worship there, and he leans on my hand, and I bow down in the temple of Rimmon. In my bowing myself in the temple of Rimmon, may YHWH please pardon your servant in this thing.”	In this matter may the LORD pardon your servant: when my master goes into the house of Rimmon to worship there, leaning on my arm, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, when I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, the LORD pardon your servant in this matter.”	But may the LORD forgive your servant for this one thing: When my master enters the temple of Rimmon to bow down and he is leaning on my arm and I have to bow there also—when I bow down in the temple of Rimmon, may the LORD forgive your servant for this.”
19	And he said to him, “Go in peace.” And he departed from him a distance of land.	He said to him, “Go in peace.” But when Naaman had gone from him a short distance,	“Go in peace,” Elisha said. After Naaman had traveled some distance,
20	And Gehazi the servant of Elisha the man of God said, “Behold, my master has spared Naaman this Aramaean—not receiving from his hands what he brought. For as YHWH lives, I will run after him and get from him something.”	Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, “See, my master has spared this Naaman the Syrian, in not accepting from his hand what he brought. As the LORD lives, I will run after him and get something from him.”	Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said to himself, “My master was too easy on Naaman, this Aramean, by not accepting from him what he brought. As surely as the LORD lives, I will run after him and get something from him.”
21	And Gehazi pursued after Naaman. And Naaman saw him running after him, and he got down from the chariot to meet him and said, “Peace?”	So Gehazi followed Naaman. And when Naaman saw someone running after him, he got down from the chariot to meet him and said, “Is all well?”	So Gehazi hurried after Naaman. When Naaman saw him running toward him, he got down from the chariot to meet him. “Is everything all right?” he asked.
22	And he said, “Peace. My master has sent me, saying, ‘Behold now this, two young men have come to me from the mountains of Ephraim of the sons of the prophets. Give, please, to them a talent of silver and two changes of garments.’”	And he said, “All is well. My master has sent me to say, ‘There have just now come to me from the hill country of Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets. Please give them a talent of silver and two changes of clothing.’”	“Everything is all right,” Gehazi answered. “My master sent me to say, ‘Two young men from the company of the prophets have just come to me from the hill country of Ephraim. Please give them a talent of silver and two sets of clothing.’”
23	And Naaman said, “Be resolved, take two talents.” And he urged him and bound two talents of silver in two bags, and two changes of garments, and he gave them to two of his servants, and they carried them on ahead of him.	And Naaman said, “Be pleased to accept two talents.” And he urged him and tied up two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of clothing, and laid them on two of his servants. And they carried them before Gehazi.	“By all means, take two talents,” said Naaman. He urged Gehazi to accept them, and then tied up the two talents of silver in two bags, with two sets of clothing. He gave them to two of his servants, and they carried them ahead of Gehazi.
24	And he came to the citadel, and he took them from their hand, and stored them away in the house, and he sent away the men, and they departed.	And when he came to the hill, he took them from their hand and put them in the house, and he sent the men away, and they departed.	When Gehazi came to the hill, he took the things from the servants and put them away in the house. He sent the men away and they left.
25	And he went in and stood before his master. And Elisha said to him, “From where, Gehazi?” And he said, “Your servant did not go where and where.”	He went in and stood before his master, and Elisha said to him, “Where have you been, Gehazi?” And he said, “Your servant went nowhere.”	When he went in and stood before his master, Elisha asked him, “Where have you been, Gehazi?” “Your servant didn’t go anywhere,” Gehazi answered.
26	And he said to him, “Did my heart not go when the man turned back from his chariot to meet you? Is it the time to receive silver, and to receive garments, and olive groves, and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and maidservants?	But he said to him, “Did not my heart go when the man turned from his chariot to meet you? Was it a time to accept money and garments, olive orchards and vineyards, sheep and oxen, male servants and female servants?	But Elisha said to him, “Was not my spirit with you when the man got down from his chariot to meet you? Is this the time to take money or to accept clothes—or olive groves and vineyards, or flocks and herds, or male and female slaves?
27	And the leprosy of Naaman shall cling to you and to your seed forever.” And he went out from before his face, leprous as the snow.	Therefore the leprosy of Naaman shall cling to you and to your descendants forever.” So he went out from his presence a leper, like snow.	Naaman’s leprosy will cling to you and to your descendants forever.” Then Gehazi went from Elisha’s presence and his skin was leprous—it had become as white as snow.
