1 Now in regard to spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be unaware. Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed. Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed.
2 You know how, when you were pagans, you were constantly attracted and led away to mute idols. You know that when you were pagans you were led astray to mute idols, however you were led. You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols.
3 Therefore, I tell you that nobody speaking by the spirit of God says, “Jesus be accursed.” And no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the holy Spirit. Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit. Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
4 There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.
5 there are different forms of service but the same Lord; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.
6 there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone. and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.
7 To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefit. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
8 To one is given through the Spirit the expression of wisdom; to another the expression of knowledge according to the same Spirit; For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit,
9 to another faith by the same Spirit; to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,
10 to another mighty deeds; to another prophecy; to another discernment of spirits; to another varieties of tongues; to another interpretation of tongues. to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.
11 But one and the same Spirit produces all of these, distributing them individually to each person as he wishes. All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.
12 As a body is one though it has many parts, and all the parts of the body, though many, are one body, so also Christ. For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.
13 For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slaves or free persons, and we were all given to drink of one Spirit. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.
14 Now the body is not a single part, but many. For the body does not consist of one member but of many. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.
15 If a foot should say, “Because I am not a hand I do not belong to the body,” it does not for this reason belong any less to the body. If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body.
16 Or if an ear should say, “Because I am not an eye I do not belong to the body,” it does not for this reason belong any less to the body. And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body.
17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole body were hearing, where would the sense of smell be? If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?
18 But as it is, God placed the parts, each one of them, in the body as he intended. But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.
19 If they were all one part, where would the body be? If all were a single member, where would the body be? If they were all one part, where would the body be?
20 But as it is, there are many parts, yet one body. As it is, there are many parts, yet one body. As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
21 The eye cannot say to the hand, “I do not need you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I do not need you.” The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!”
22 Indeed, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are all the more necessary, On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable,
23 and those parts of the body that we consider less honorable we surround with greater honor, and our less presentable parts are treated with greater propriety, and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty, and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty,
24 whereas our more presentable parts do not need this. But God has so constructed the body as to give greater honor to a part that is without it, which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it,
25 so that there may be no division in the body, but that the parts may have the same concern for one another. that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other.
26 If [one] part suffers, all the parts suffer with it; if one part is honored, all the parts share its joy. If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.
27 Now you are Christ’s body, and individually parts of it. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.
28 Some people God has designated in the church to be, first, apostles; second, prophets; third, teachers; then, mighty deeds; then, gifts of healing, assistance, administration, and varieties of tongues. And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues. And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues.
29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work mighty deeds? Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles?
30 Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret?
31 Strive eagerly for the greatest spiritual gifts. But I shall show you a still more excellent way. But earnestly desire the higher gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way. Now eagerly desire the greater gifts. And yet I will show you the most excellent way.
