1 NOW concerning spiritual gifts, my brethren, I want to remind you, Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed. Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed.
2 That once you were pagans, and without exception you were carried away by dumb idols. You know that when you were pagans you were led astray to mute idols, however you were led. You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols.
3 Wherefore I want you to understand that no man, speaking by the Spirit of God, calls Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the LORD but by the Holy Spirit. Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit. Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but there is only one Spirit. Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.
5 And there are diversities of ministries, but there is only one LORD. and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.
6 And there are diversities of powers, but it is the one God who works all things in all men. and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.
7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man as help to him. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit. For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit,
9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another gifts of healing by the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,
10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another the means to distinguish the true Spirit; to another divers languages; to another the interpretation of languages. to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.
11 But all of these gifts are wrought by that one and the same Spirit, dividing to every one severally as he will. All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.
12 For as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, even though many, are one body, so also is Christ. For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.
13 For all of us are baptized by one Spirit into one body, whether Jews or Gentiles, whether bond or free; and we have all received through the one Spirit. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.
14 The body is not one member, but many. For the body does not consist of one member but of many. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.
15 For if the foot should say, Because I am not the hand, I am not a part of the body; is it therefore not a member of the body? If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body.
16 And if the ear should say, Because I am not the eye, I am not a part of the body; is it therefore not a member of the body? And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body.
17 If the whole body were eyes, where would hearing be? And if the whole were hearing, where would smelling be? If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?
18 But now God has set every member in the body, as it has pleased him. But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.
19 If they were all one member, where would the body be? If all were a single member, where would the body be? If they were all one part, where would the body be?
20 But now they are many members, yet but one body. As it is, there are many parts, yet one body. As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
21 The eye cannot say to the hand, I have no need of you: nor can the head say to the feet, I have no need of you. The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!”
22 But rather those members of the body which are considered to be delicate are necessary. On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable,
23 And those members of the body, which we think to be less honorable, we bestow more abundant honor; and the parts that are uncomely, we dress with greater care. and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty, and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty,
24 For our comely parts have no need for attention: But God has so tempered the body together, and has given greater honor to the member which is inferior: which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it,
25 That there may be no discord in the body, but that they may care one for another, all members should be equal. that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other.
26 So when one member is in pain, all the members suffer with it; and if one member is honored, all the members will glory with it. If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.
27 Now you are the body of Christ, and members in your respective places. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.
28 For God has set in his church, first apostles; after them, prophets; then teachers, then performers of miracles, then those who have the gift of healing, helpers, leaders, and speakers in diverse languages. And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues. And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues.
29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles?
30 Have all the gifts of healing? Do all speak in diverse tongues? or do all interpret? Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret?
31 But if you are searching for the greater gifts, I will show you a more excellent way. But earnestly desire the higher gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way. Now eagerly desire the greater gifts. And yet I will show you the most excellent way.
