1 THOUGH I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not love in my heart, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not love in my heart, I am nothing. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not love in my heart, I gain nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
4 Love is long-suffering and is kind; love does not envy; love does not make a vain display of itself, and does not boast, Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
5 Does not behave itself unseemly, seeks not her own, is not easily provoked, thinks no evil; or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
6 Rejoices not over injustice, but rejoices in the truth; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
7 Bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, For we know in part and we prophesy in part,
10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is imperfect shall be done away. but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears.
11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.
12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now abides faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
