New Living Translation | New American Standard Bible 1995 |
When everything was ready, the LORD said to Noah, “Go into the boat with all your family, for among all the people of the earth, I can see that you alone are righteous. | 1Then the LORD said to Noah, "Enter the ark, you and all your household, for you alone I have seen to be righteous before Me in this time. |
Take with you seven pairs—male and female—of each animal I have approved for eating and for sacrifice, and take one pair of each of the others. | 2"You shall take with you of every clean animal by sevens, a male and his female; and of the animals that are not clean two, a male and his female; |
Also take seven pairs of every kind of bird. There must be a male and a female in each pair to ensure that all life will survive on the earth after the flood. | 3also of the birds of the sky, by sevens, male and female, to keep offspring alive on the face of all the earth. |
Seven days from now I will make the rains pour down on the earth. And it will rain for forty days and forty nights, until I have wiped from the earth all the living things I have created.” | 4"For after seven more days, I will send rain on the earth forty days and forty nights; and I will blot out from the face of the land every living thing that I have made." |
So Noah did everything as the LORD commanded him. | 5Noah did according to all that the LORD had commanded him. |
Noah was 600 years old when the flood covered the earth. | 6Now Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of water came upon the earth. |
He went on board the boat to escape the flood—he and his wife and his sons and their wives. | 7Then Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons' wives with him entered the ark because of the water of the flood. |
With them were all the various kinds of animals—those approved for eating and for sacrifice and those that were not—along with all the birds and the small animals that scurry along the ground. | 8Of clean animals and animals that are not clean and birds and everything that creeps on the ground, |
They entered the boat in pairs, male and female, just as God had commanded Noah. | 9there went into the ark to Noah by twos, male and female, as God had commanded Noah. |
After seven days, the waters of the flood came and covered the earth. | 10It came about after the seven days, that the water of the flood came upon the earth. |
When Noah was 600 years old, on the seventeenth day of the second month, all the underground waters erupted from the earth, and the rain fell in mighty torrents from the sky. | 11In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on the same day all the fountains of the great deep burst open, and the floodgates of the sky were opened. |
The rain continued to fall for forty days and forty nights. | 12The rain fell upon the earth for forty days and forty nights. |
That very day Noah had gone into the boat with his wife and his sons—Shem, Ham, and Japheth—and their wives. | 13On the very same day Noah and Shem and Ham and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah's wife and the three wives of his sons with them, entered the ark, |
With them in the boat were pairs of every kind of animal—domestic and wild, large and small—along with birds of every kind. | 14they and every beast after its kind, and all the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth after its kind, and every bird after its kind, all sorts of birds. |
Two by two they came into the boat, representing every living thing that breathes. | 15So they went into the ark to Noah, by twos of all flesh in which was the breath of life. |
A male and female of each kind entered, just as God had commanded Noah. Then the LORD closed the door behind them. | 16Those that entered, male and female of all flesh, entered as God had commanded him; and the LORD closed it behind him. |
For forty days the floodwaters grew deeper, covering the ground and lifting the boat high above the earth. | 17Then the flood came upon the earth for forty days, and the water increased and lifted up the ark, so that it rose above the earth. |
As the waters rose higher and higher above the ground, the boat floated safely on the surface. | 18The water prevailed and increased greatly upon the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. |
Finally, the water covered even the highest mountains on the earth, | 19The water prevailed more and more upon the earth, so that all the high mountains everywhere under the heavens were covered. |
rising more than twenty-two feet above the highest peaks. | 20The water prevailed fifteen cubits higher, and the mountains were covered. |
All the living things on earth died—birds, domestic animals, wild animals, small animals that scurry along the ground, and all the people. | 21All flesh that moved on the earth perished, birds and cattle and beasts and every swarming thing that swarms upon the earth, and all mankind; |
Everything that breathed and lived on dry land died. | 22of all that was on the dry land, all in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, died. |
God wiped out every living thing on the earth—people, livestock, small animals that scurry along the ground, and the birds of the sky. All were destroyed. The only people who survived were Noah and those with him in the boat. | 23Thus He blotted out every living thing that was upon the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky, and they were blotted out from the earth; and only Noah was left, together with those that were with him in the ark. |
And the floodwaters covered the earth for 150 days. | 24The water prevailed upon the earth one hundred and fifty days. |
