When everything was ready, the LORD said to Noah, “Go into the boat with all your family, for among all the people of the earth, I can see that you alone are righteous.1Then the LORD said to Noah, "Enter the ark, you and all your household, for I have seen that you alone are righteous before Me in this generation.
Take with you seven pairs—male and female—of each animal I have approved for eating and for sacrifice, and take one pair of each of the others.2You are to take with you seven pairs, a male and its female, of all the clean animals, and two of the animals that are not clean, a male and its female,
Also take seven pairs of every kind of bird. There must be a male and a female in each pair to ensure that all life will survive on the earth after the flood.3and seven pairs, male and female, of the birds of the sky--in order to keep offspring alive on the face of the whole earth.
Seven days from now I will make the rains pour down on the earth. And it will rain for forty days and forty nights, until I have wiped from the earth all the living things I have created.”4Seven days from now I will make it rain on the earth 40 days and 40 nights, and I will wipe off from the face of the earth every living thing I have made."
So Noah did everything as the LORD commanded him.5And Noah did everything that the LORD commanded him.
Noah was 600 years old when the flood covered the earth.6Noah was 600 years old when the flood came and water covered the earth.
He went on board the boat to escape the flood—he and his wife and his sons and their wives.7So Noah, his sons, his wife, and his sons' wives entered the ark because of the waters of the flood.
With them were all the various kinds of animals—those approved for eating and for sacrifice and those that were not—along with all the birds and the small animals that scurry along the ground.8From the clean animals, unclean animals, birds, and every creature that crawls on the ground,
They entered the boat in pairs, male and female, just as God had commanded Noah.9two of each, male and female, entered the ark with Noah, just as God had commanded him.
After seven days, the waters of the flood came and covered the earth.10Seven days later the waters of the flood came on the earth.
When Noah was 600 years old, on the seventeenth day of the second month, all the underground waters erupted from the earth, and the rain fell in mighty torrents from the sky.11In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the sources of the watery depths burst open, the floodgates of the sky were opened,
The rain continued to fall for forty days and forty nights.12and the rain fell on the earth 40 days and 40 nights.
That very day Noah had gone into the boat with his wife and his sons—Shem, Ham, and Japheth—and their wives.13On that same day Noah along with his sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth, Noah's wife, and his three sons' wives entered the ark with him.
With them in the boat were pairs of every kind of animal—domestic and wild, large and small—along with birds of every kind.14They entered it with all the wildlife according to their kinds, all livestock according to their kinds, the creatures that crawl on the earth according to their kinds, all birds, every fowl, and everything with wings according to their kinds.
Two by two they came into the boat, representing every living thing that breathes.15Two of all flesh that has the breath of life in it entered the ark with Noah.
A male and female of each kind entered, just as God had commanded Noah. Then the LORD closed the door behind them.16Those that entered, male and female of all flesh, entered just as God had commanded him. Then the LORD shut him in.
For forty days the floodwaters grew deeper, covering the ground and lifting the boat high above the earth.17The flood continued for 40 days on the earth; the waters increased and lifted up the ark so that it rose above the earth.
As the waters rose higher and higher above the ground, the boat floated safely on the surface.18The waters surged and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water.
Finally, the water covered even the highest mountains on the earth,19Then the waters surged even higher on the earth, and all the high mountains under the whole sky were covered.
rising more than twenty-two feet above the highest peaks.20The mountains were covered as the waters surged above them more than 20 feet.
All the living things on earth died—birds, domestic animals, wild animals, small animals that scurry along the ground, and all the people.21Every creature perished--those that crawl on the earth, birds, livestock, wildlife, and those that swarm on the earth, as well as all mankind.
Everything that breathed and lived on dry land died.22Everything with the breath of the spirit of life in its nostrils--everything on dry land died.
God wiped out every living thing on the earth—people, livestock, small animals that scurry along the ground, and the birds of the sky. All were destroyed. The only people who survived were Noah and those with him in the boat.23He wiped out every living thing that was on the surface of the ground, from mankind to livestock, to creatures that crawl, to the birds of the sky, and they were wiped off the earth. Only Noah was left, and those that were with him in the ark.
And the floodwaters covered the earth for 150 days.24And the waters surged on the earth 150 days.
