New Living Translation | Christian Standard Bible |
O LORD, I have come to you for protection; don’t let me be disgraced. Save me, for you do what is right. | 1LORD, I seek refuge in you; let me never be disgraced. Save me by your righteousness. |
Turn your ear to listen to me; rescue me quickly. Be my rock of protection, a fortress where I will be safe. | 2Listen closely to me; rescue me quickly. Be a rock of refuge for me, a mountain fortress to save me. |
You are my rock and my fortress. For the honor of your name, lead me out of this danger. | 3For you are my rock and my fortress; you lead and guide me for your name's sake. |
Pull me from the trap my enemies set for me, for I find protection in you alone. | 4You will free me from the net that is secretly set for me, for you are my refuge. |
I entrust my spirit into your hand. Rescue me, LORD, for you are a faithful God. | 5Into your hand I entrust my spirit; you have redeemed me, LORD, God of truth. |
I hate those who worship worthless idols. I trust in the LORD. | 6I hate those who are devoted to worthless idols, but I trust in the LORD. |
I will be glad and rejoice in your unfailing love, for you have seen my troubles, and you care about the anguish of my soul. | 7I will rejoice and be glad in your faithful love because you have seen my affliction. You know the troubles of my soul |
You have not handed me over to my enemies but have set me in a safe place. | 8and have not handed me over to the enemy. You have set my feet in a spacious place. |
Have mercy on me, LORD, for I am in distress. Tears blur my eyes. My body and soul are withering away. | 9Be gracious to me, LORD, because I am in distress; my eyes are worn out from frustration--my whole being as well. |
I am dying from grief; my years are shortened by sadness. Sin has drained my strength; I am wasting away from within. | 10Indeed, my life is consumed with grief and my years with groaning; my strength has failed because of my iniquity, and my bones waste away. |
I am scorned by all my enemies and despised by my neighbors— even my friends are afraid to come near me. When they see me on the street, they run the other way. | 11I am ridiculed by all my adversaries and even by my neighbors. I am dreaded by my acquaintances; those who see me in the street run from me. |
I am ignored as if I were dead, as if I were a broken pot. | 12I am forgotten: gone from memory like a dead person--like broken pottery. |
I have heard the many rumors about me, and I am surrounded by terror. My enemies conspire against me, plotting to take my life. | 13I have heard the gossip of many; terror is on every side. When they conspired against me, they plotted to take my life. |
But I am trusting you, O LORD, saying, “You are my God!” | 14But I trust in you, LORD; I say, "You are my God." |
My future is in your hands. Rescue me from those who hunt me down relentlessly. | 15The course of my life is in your power; rescue me from the power of my enemies and from my persecutors. |
Let your favor shine on your servant. In your unfailing love, rescue me. | 16Make your face shine on your servant; save me by your faithful love. |
Don’t let me be disgraced, O LORD, for I call out to you for help. Let the wicked be disgraced; let them lie silent in the grave. | 17LORD, do not let me be disgraced when I call on you. Let the wicked be disgraced; let them be quiet in Sheol. |
Silence their lying lips— those proud and arrogant lips that accuse the godly. | 18Let lying lips that arrogantly speak against the righteous in proud contempt be silenced. |
How great is the goodness you have stored up for those who fear you. You lavish it on those who come to you for protection, blessing them before the watching world. | 19How great is your goodness that you have stored up for those who fear you and accomplished in the sight of everyone for those who take refuge in you. |
You hide them in the shelter of your presence, safe from those who conspire against them. You shelter them in your presence, far from accusing tongues. | 20You hide them in the protection of your presence; you conceal them in a shelter from human schemes, from quarrelsome tongues. |
Praise the LORD, for he has shown me the wonders of his unfailing love. He kept me safe when my city was under attack. | 21Blessed be the LORD, for he has wondrously shown his faithful love to me in a city under siege. |
In panic I cried out, “I am cut off from the LORD!” But you heard my cry for mercy and answered my call for help. | 22In my alarm I said, "I am cut off from your sight." But you heard the sound of my pleading when I cried to you for help. |
Love the LORD, all you godly ones! For the LORD protects those who are loyal to him, but he harshly punishes the arrogant. | 23Love the LORD, all his faithful ones. The LORD protects the loyal, but fully repays the arrogant. |
So be strong and courageous, all you who put your hope in the LORD! | 24Be strong, and let your heart be courageous, all you who put your hope in the LORD. |
