A Psalm. A Song at the dedication of the house of David. I will extol You, O LORD, for You have lifted me up, And have not let my foes rejoice over me. | 1A psalm--a song used at the dedication of the temple; by David. I will praise you, O LORD, for you lifted me up, and did not allow my enemies to gloat over me. |
O LORD my God, I cried out to You, And You healed me. | 2O LORD my God, I cried out to you and you healed me. |
O LORD, You brought my soul up from the grave; You have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit. | 3O LORD, you pulled me up from Sheol; you rescued me from among those descending into the grave. |
Sing praise to the LORD, you saints of His, And give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name. | 4Sing to the LORD, you faithful followers of his; give thanks to his holy name. |
For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning. | 5For his anger lasts only a brief moment, and his good favor restores one's life. One may experience sorrow during the night, but joy arrives in the morning. |
Now in my prosperity I said, “I shall never be moved.” | 6In my self-confidence I said, "I will never be upended." |
LORD, by Your favor You have made my mountain stand strong; You hid Your face, and I was troubled. | 7O LORD, in your good favor you made me secure. Then you rejected me and I was terrified. |
I cried out to You, O LORD; And to the LORD I made supplication: | 8To you, O LORD, I cried out; I begged the Lord for mercy: |
“What profit is there in my blood, When I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise You? Will it declare Your truth? | 9"What profit is there in taking my life, in my descending into the Pit? Can the dust of the grave praise you? Can it declare your loyalty? |
Hear, O LORD, and have mercy on me; LORD, be my helper!” | 10Hear, O LORD, and have mercy on me! O LORD, deliver me!" |
You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, | 11Then you turned my lament into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and covered me with joy. |
To the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever. | 12So now my heart will sing to you and not be silent; O LORD my God, I will always give thanks to you. |
