A Psalm. A Song at the dedication of the house of David. I will extol You, O LORD, for You have lifted me up, And have not let my foes rejoice over me.1A psalm--a song used at the dedication of the temple; by David. I will praise you, O LORD, for you lifted me up, and did not allow my enemies to gloat over me.
O LORD my God, I cried out to You, And You healed me.2O LORD my God, I cried out to you and you healed me.
O LORD, You brought my soul up from the grave; You have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.3O LORD, you pulled me up from Sheol; you rescued me from among those descending into the grave.
Sing praise to the LORD, you saints of His, And give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name.4Sing to the LORD, you faithful followers of his; give thanks to his holy name.
For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.5For his anger lasts only a brief moment, and his good favor restores one's life. One may experience sorrow during the night, but joy arrives in the morning.
Now in my prosperity I said, “I shall never be moved.”6In my self-confidence I said, "I will never be upended."
LORD, by Your favor You have made my mountain stand strong; You hid Your face, and I was troubled.7O LORD, in your good favor you made me secure. Then you rejected me and I was terrified.
I cried out to You, O LORD; And to the LORD I made supplication:8To you, O LORD, I cried out; I begged the Lord for mercy:
“What profit is there in my blood, When I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise You? Will it declare Your truth?9"What profit is there in taking my life, in my descending into the Pit? Can the dust of the grave praise you? Can it declare your loyalty?
Hear, O LORD, and have mercy on me; LORD, be my helper!”10Hear, O LORD, and have mercy on me! O LORD, deliver me!"
You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness,11Then you turned my lament into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and covered me with joy.
To the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever.12So now my heart will sing to you and not be silent; O LORD my God, I will always give thanks to you.
