A Psalm of David. Do not fret because of evildoers, Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity. | 1A Psalm of David. Do not fret because of evildoers, Be not envious toward wrongdoers. |
For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither as the green herb. | 2For they will wither quickly like the grass And fade like the green herb. |
Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. | 3Trust in the LORD and do good; Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. |
Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. | 4Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart. |
Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. | 5Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it. |
He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday. | 6He will bring forth your righteousness as the light And your judgment as the noonday. |
Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass. | 7Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes. |
Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret—it only causes harm. | 8Cease from anger and forsake wrath; Do not fret; it leads only to evildoing. |
For evildoers shall be cut off; But those who wait on the LORD, They shall inherit the earth. | 9For evildoers will be cut off, But those who wait for the LORD, they will inherit the land. |
For yet a little while and the wicked shall be no more; Indeed, you will look carefully for his place, But it shall be no more. | 10Yet a little while and the wicked man will be no more; And you will look carefully for his place and he will not be there. |
But the meek shall inherit the earth, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. | 11But the humble will inherit the land And will delight themselves in abundant prosperity. |
The wicked plots against the just, And gnashes at him with his teeth. | 12The wicked plots against the righteous And gnashes at him with his teeth. |
The Lord laughs at him, For He sees that his day is coming. | 13The Lord laughs at him, For He sees his day is coming. |
The wicked have drawn the sword And have bent their bow, To cast down the poor and needy, To slay those who are of upright conduct. | 14The wicked have drawn the sword and bent their bow To cast down the afflicted and the needy, To slay those who are upright in conduct. |
Their sword shall enter their own heart, And their bows shall be broken. | 15Their sword will enter their own heart, And their bows will be broken. |
A little that a righteous man has Is better than the riches of many wicked. | 16Better is the little of the righteous Than the abundance of many wicked. |
For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, But the LORD upholds the righteous. | 17For the arms of the wicked will be broken, But the LORD sustains the righteous. |
The LORD knows the days of the upright, And their inheritance shall be forever. | 18The LORD knows the days of the blameless, And their inheritance will be forever. |
They shall not be ashamed in the evil time, And in the days of famine they shall be satisfied. | 19They will not be ashamed in the time of evil, And in the days of famine they will have abundance. |
But the wicked shall perish; And the enemies of the LORD, Like the splendor of the meadows, shall vanish. Into smoke they shall vanish away. | 20But the wicked will perish; And the enemies of the LORD will be like the glory of the pastures, They vanish-- like smoke they vanish away. |
The wicked borrows and does not repay, But the righteous shows mercy and gives. | 21The wicked borrows and does not pay back, But the righteous is gracious and gives. |
For those blessed by Him shall inherit the earth, But those cursed by Him shall be cut off. | 22For those blessed by Him will inherit the land, But those cursed by Him will be cut off. |
The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way. | 23The steps of a man are established by the LORD, And He delights in his way. |
Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; For the LORD upholds him with His hand. | 24When he falls, he will not be hurled headlong, Because the LORD is the One who holds his hand. |
I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his descendants begging bread. | 25I have been young and now I am old, Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken Or his descendants begging bread. |
He is ever merciful, and lends; And his descendants are blessed. | 26All day long he is gracious and lends, And his descendants are a blessing. |
Depart from evil, and do good; And dwell forevermore. | 27Depart from evil and do good, So you will abide forever. |
For the LORD loves justice, And does not forsake His saints; They are preserved forever, But the descendants of the wicked shall be cut off. | 28For the LORD loves justice And does not forsake His godly ones; They are preserved forever, But the descendants of the wicked will be cut off. |
The righteous shall inherit the land, And dwell in it forever. | 29The righteous will inherit the land And dwell in it forever. |
The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, And his tongue talks of justice. | 30The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, And his tongue speaks justice. |
The law of his God is in his heart; None of his steps shall slide. | 31The law of his God is in his heart; His steps do not slip. |
The wicked watches the righteous, And seeks to slay him. | 32The wicked spies upon the righteous And seeks to kill him. |
The LORD will not leave him in his hand, Nor condemn him when he is judged. | 33The LORD will not leave him in his hand Or let him be condemned when he is judged. |
Wait on the LORD, And keep His way, And He shall exalt you to inherit the land; When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it. | 34Wait for the LORD and keep His way, And He will exalt you to inherit the land; When the wicked are cut off, you will see it. |
I have seen the wicked in great power, And spreading himself like a native green tree. | 35I have seen a wicked, violent man Spreading himself like a luxuriant tree in its native soil. |
Yet he passed away, and behold, he was no more; Indeed I sought him, but he could not be found. | 36Then he passed away, and lo, he was no more; I sought for him, but he could not be found. |
Mark the blameless man, and observe the upright; For the future of that man is peace. | 37Mark the blameless man, and behold the upright; For the man of peace will have a posterity. |
But the transgressors shall be destroyed together; The future of the wicked shall be cut off. | 38But transgressors will be altogether destroyed; The posterity of the wicked will be cut off. |
But the salvation of the righteous is from the LORD; He is their strength in the time of trouble. | 39But the salvation of the righteous is from the LORD; He is their strength in time of trouble. |
And the LORD shall help them and deliver them; He shall deliver them from the wicked, And save them, Because they trust in Him. | 40The LORD helps them and delivers them; He delivers them from the wicked and saves them, Because they take refuge in Him. |
