A Psalm of David. Do not fret because of evildoers, Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity. | 1Do not be agitated by evildoers; do not envy those who do wrong. |
For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither as the green herb. | 2For they wither quickly like grass and wilt like tender green plants. |
Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. | 3Trust in the LORD and do what is good; dwell in the land and live securely. |
Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. | 4Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you your heart's desires. |
Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. | 5Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act, |
He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday. | 6making your righteousness shine like the dawn, your justice like the noonday. |
Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass. | 7Be silent before the LORD and wait expectantly for him; do not be agitated by one who prospers in his way, by the person who carries out evil plans. |
Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret—it only causes harm. | 8Refrain from anger and give up your rage; do not be agitated--it can only bring harm. |
For evildoers shall be cut off; But those who wait on the LORD, They shall inherit the earth. | 9For evildoers will be destroyed, but those who put their hope in the LORD will inherit the land. |
For yet a little while and the wicked shall be no more; Indeed, you will look carefully for his place, But it shall be no more. | 10A little while, and the wicked person will be no more; though you look for him, he will not be there. |
But the meek shall inherit the earth, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. | 11But the humble will inherit the land and will enjoy abundant prosperity. |
The wicked plots against the just, And gnashes at him with his teeth. | 12The wicked person schemes against the righteous and gnashes his teeth at him. |
The Lord laughs at him, For He sees that his day is coming. | 13The Lord laughs at him because he sees that his day is coming. |
The wicked have drawn the sword And have bent their bow, To cast down the poor and needy, To slay those who are of upright conduct. | 14The wicked have drawn the sword and strung the bow to bring down the poor and needy and to slaughter those whose way is upright. |
Their sword shall enter their own heart, And their bows shall be broken. | 15Their swords will enter their own hearts, and their bows will be broken. |
A little that a righteous man has Is better than the riches of many wicked. | 16The little that the righteous person has is better than the abundance of many wicked people. |
For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, But the LORD upholds the righteous. | 17For the arms of the wicked will be broken, but the LORD supports the righteous. |
The LORD knows the days of the upright, And their inheritance shall be forever. | 18The LORD watches over the blameless all their days, and their inheritance will last forever. |
They shall not be ashamed in the evil time, And in the days of famine they shall be satisfied. | 19They will not be disgraced in times of adversity; they will be satisfied in days of hunger. |
But the wicked shall perish; And the enemies of the LORD, Like the splendor of the meadows, shall vanish. Into smoke they shall vanish away. | 20But the wicked will perish; the LORD's enemies, like the glory of the pastures, will fade away--they will fade away like smoke. |
The wicked borrows and does not repay, But the righteous shows mercy and gives. | 21The wicked person borrows and does not repay, but the righteous one is gracious and giving. |
For those blessed by Him shall inherit the earth, But those cursed by Him shall be cut off. | 22Those who are blessed by the LORD will inherit the land, but those cursed by him will be destroyed. |
The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way. | 23A person's steps are established by the LORD, and he takes pleasure in his way. |
Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; For the LORD upholds him with His hand. | 24Though he falls, he will not be overwhelmed, because the LORD supports him with his hand. |
I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his descendants begging bread. | 25I have been young and now I am old, yet I have not seen the righteous abandoned or his children begging for bread. |
He is ever merciful, and lends; And his descendants are blessed. | 26He is always generous, always lending, and his children are a blessing. |
Depart from evil, and do good; And dwell forevermore. | 27Turn away from evil, do what is good, and settle permanently. |
For the LORD loves justice, And does not forsake His saints; They are preserved forever, But the descendants of the wicked shall be cut off. | 28For the LORD loves justice and will not abandon his faithful ones. They are kept safe forever, but the children of the wicked will be destroyed. |
The righteous shall inherit the land, And dwell in it forever. | 29The righteous will inherit the land and dwell in it permanently. |
The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, And his tongue talks of justice. | 30The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom; his tongue speaks what is just. |
The law of his God is in his heart; None of his steps shall slide. | 31The instruction of his God is in his heart; his steps do not falter. |
The wicked watches the righteous, And seeks to slay him. | 32The wicked one lies in wait for the righteous and intends to kill him; |
The LORD will not leave him in his hand, Nor condemn him when he is judged. | 33the LORD will not leave him in the power of the wicked one or allow him to be condemned when he is judged. |
Wait on the LORD, And keep His way, And He shall exalt you to inherit the land; When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it. | 34Wait for the LORD and keep his way, and he will exalt you to inherit the land. You will watch when the wicked are destroyed. |
I have seen the wicked in great power, And spreading himself like a native green tree. | 35I have seen a wicked, violent person well-rooted, like a flourishing native tree. |
Yet he passed away, and behold, he was no more; Indeed I sought him, but he could not be found. | 36Then I passed by and noticed he was gone; I searched for him, but he could not be found. |
Mark the blameless man, and observe the upright; For the future of that man is peace. | 37Watch the blameless and observe the upright, for the person of peace will have a future. |
But the transgressors shall be destroyed together; The future of the wicked shall be cut off. | 38But transgressors will all be eliminated; the future of the wicked will be destroyed. |
But the salvation of the righteous is from the LORD; He is their strength in the time of trouble. | 39The salvation of the righteous is from the LORD, their refuge in a time of distress. |
And the LORD shall help them and deliver them; He shall deliver them from the wicked, And save them, Because they trust in Him. | 40The LORD helps and delivers them; he will deliver them from the wicked and will save them because they take refuge in him. |
