A Song. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. To the Chief Musician. Set to “Mahalath Leannoth.” A Contemplation of Heman the Ezrahite. O LORD, God of my salvation, I have cried out day and night before You. | 1A song. A psalm of the sons of Korah. For the choir director: according to Mahalath Leannoth. A Maskil of Heman the Ezrahite. LORD, God of my salvation, I cry out before You day and night. |
Let my prayer come before You; Incline Your ear to my cry. | 2May my prayer reach Your presence; listen to my cry. |
For my soul is full of troubles, And my life draws near to the grave. | 3For I have had enough troubles, and my life is near Sheol. |
I am counted with those who go down to the pit; I am like a man who has no strength, | 4I am counted among those going down to the Pit. I am like a man without strength, |
Adrift among the dead, Like the slain who lie in the grave, Whom You remember no more, And who are cut off from Your hand. | 5abandoned among the dead. I am like the slain lying in the grave, whom You no longer remember, and who are cut off from Your care. |
You have laid me in the lowest pit, In darkness, in the depths. | 6You have put me in the lowest part of the Pit, in the darkest places, in the depths. |
Your wrath lies heavy upon me, And You have afflicted me with all Your waves. Selah | 7Your wrath weighs heavily on me; You have overwhelmed me with all Your waves. Selah |
You have put away my acquaintances far from me; You have made me an abomination to them; I am shut up, and I cannot get out; | 8You have distanced my friends from me; You have made me repulsive to them. I am shut in and cannot go out. |
My eye wastes away because of affliction. LORD, I have called daily upon You; I have stretched out my hands to You. | 9My eyes are worn out from crying. LORD, I cry out to You all day long; I spread out my hands to You. |
Will You work wonders for the dead? Shall the dead arise and praise You? Selah | 10Do You work wonders for the dead? Do departed spirits rise up to praise You? Selah |
Shall Your lovingkindness be declared in the grave? Or Your faithfulness in the place of destruction? | 11Will Your faithful love be declared in the grave, Your faithfulness in Abaddon? |
Shall Your wonders be known in the dark? And Your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness? | 12Will Your wonders be known in the darkness or Your righteousness in the land of oblivion? |
But to You I have cried out, O LORD, And in the morning my prayer comes before You. | 13But I call to You for help, LORD; in the morning my prayer meets You. |
LORD, why do You cast off my soul? Why do You hide Your face from me? | 14 LORD, why do You reject me? Why do You hide Your face from me? |
I have been afflicted and ready to die from my youth; I suffer Your terrors; I am distraught. | 15From my youth, I have been afflicted and near death. I suffer Your horrors; I am desperate. |
Your fierce wrath has gone over me; Your terrors have cut me off. | 16Your wrath sweeps over me; Your terrors destroy me. |
They came around me all day long like water; They engulfed me altogether. | 17They surround me like water all day long; they close in on me from every side. |
Loved one and friend You have put far from me, And my acquaintances into darkness. | 18You have distanced loved one and neighbor from me; darkness is my only friend. |
