A Song. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. To the Chief Musician. Set to “Mahalath Leannoth.” A Contemplation of Heman the Ezrahite. O LORD, God of my salvation, I have cried out day and night before You.1LORD, God of my salvation, I cry out before you day and night.
Let my prayer come before You; Incline Your ear to my cry.2May my prayer reach your presence; listen to my cry.
For my soul is full of troubles, And my life draws near to the grave.3For I have had enough troubles, and my life is near Sheol.
I am counted with those who go down to the pit; I am like a man who has no strength,4I am counted among those going down to the Pit. I am like a man without strength,
Adrift among the dead, Like the slain who lie in the grave, Whom You remember no more, And who are cut off from Your hand.5abandoned among the dead. I am like the slain lying in the grave, whom you no longer remember, and who are cut off from your care.
You have laid me in the lowest pit, In darkness, in the depths.6You have put me in the lowest part of the Pit, in the darkest places, in the depths.
Your wrath lies heavy upon me, And You have afflicted me with all Your waves. Selah7Your wrath weighs heavily on me; you have overwhelmed me with all your waves. Selah
You have put away my acquaintances far from me; You have made me an abomination to them; I am shut up, and I cannot get out;8You have distanced my friends from me; you have made me repulsive to them. I am shut in and cannot go out.
My eye wastes away because of affliction. LORD, I have called daily upon You; I have stretched out my hands to You.9My eyes are worn out from crying. LORD, I cry out to you all day long; I spread out my hands to you.
Will You work wonders for the dead? Shall the dead arise and praise You? Selah10Do you work wonders for the dead? Do departed spirits rise up to praise you? Selah
Shall Your lovingkindness be declared in the grave? Or Your faithfulness in the place of destruction?11Will your faithful love be declared in the grave, your faithfulness in Abaddon?
Shall Your wonders be known in the dark? And Your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?12Will your wonders be known in the darkness or your righteousness in the land of oblivion?
But to You I have cried out, O LORD, And in the morning my prayer comes before You.13But I call to you for help, LORD; in the morning my prayer meets you.
LORD, why do You cast off my soul? Why do You hide Your face from me?14LORD, why do you reject me? Why do you hide your face from me?
I have been afflicted and ready to die from my youth; I suffer Your terrors; I am distraught.15From my youth, I have been suffering and near death. I suffer your horrors; I am desperate.
Your fierce wrath has gone over me; Your terrors have cut me off.16Your wrath sweeps over me; your terrors destroy me.
They came around me all day long like water; They engulfed me altogether.17They surround me like water all day long; they close in on me from every side.
Loved one and friend You have put far from me, And my acquaintances into darkness.18You have distanced loved one and neighbor from me; darkness is my only friend.
