Psalm 72
NET Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
NET BibleEnglish Standard Version
For Solomon. O God, grant the king the ability to make just decisions! Grant the king's son the ability to make fair decisions! 1Give the king your justice, O God, and your righteousness to the royal son!
Then he will judge your people fairly, and your oppressed ones equitably. 2May he judge your people with righteousness, and your poor with justice!
The mountains will bring news of peace to the people, and the hills will announce justice. 3Let the mountains bear prosperity for the people, and the hills, in righteousness!
He will defend the oppressed among the people; he will deliver the children of the poor and crush the oppressor. 4May he defend the cause of the poor of the people, give deliverance to the children of the needy, and crush the oppressor!
People will fear you as long as the sun and moon remain in the sky, for generation after generation. 5May they fear you while the sun endures, and as long as the moon, throughout all generations!
He will descend like rain on the mown grass, like showers that drench the earth. 6May he be like rain that falls on the mown grass, like showers that water the earth!
During his days the godly will flourish; peace will prevail as long as the moon remains in the sky. 7In his days may the righteous flourish, and peace abound, till the moon be no more!
May he rule from sea to sea, and from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth! 8May he have dominion from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth!
Before him the coastlands will bow down, and his enemies will lick the dust. 9May desert tribes bow down before him, and his enemies lick the dust!
The kings of Tarshish and the coastlands will offer gifts; the kings of Sheba and Seba will bring tribute. 10May the kings of Tarshish and of the coastlands render him tribute; may the kings of Sheba and Seba bring gifts!
All kings will bow down to him; all nations will serve him. 11May all kings fall down before him, all nations serve him!
For he will rescue the needy when they cry out for help, and the oppressed who have no defender. 12For he delivers the needy when he calls, the poor and him who has no helper.
He will take pity on the poor and needy; the lives of the needy he will save. 13He has pity on the weak and the needy, and saves the lives of the needy.
From harm and violence he will defend them; he will value their lives. 14From oppression and violence he redeems their life, and precious is their blood in his sight.
May he live! May they offer him gold from Sheba! May they continually pray for him! May they pronounce blessings on him all day long! 15Long may he live; may gold of Sheba be given to him! May prayer be made for him continually, and blessings invoked for him all the day!
May there be an abundance of grain in the earth; on the tops of the mountains may it sway! May its fruit trees flourish like the forests of Lebanon! May its crops be as abundant as the grass of the earth! 16May there be abundance of grain in the land; on the tops of the mountains may it wave; may its fruit be like Lebanon; and may people blossom in the cities like the grass of the field!
May his fame endure! May his dynasty last as long as the sun remains in the sky! May they use his name when they formulate their blessings! May all nations consider him to be favored by God! 17May his name endure forever, his fame continue as long as the sun! May people be blessed in him, all nations call him blessed!
The LORD God, the God of Israel, deserves praise! He alone accomplishes amazing things! 18Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who alone does wondrous things.
His glorious name deserves praise forevermore! May his majestic splendor fill the whole earth! We agree! We agree! 19Blessed be his glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory! Amen and Amen!
