| 1Then the LORD took note of Sarah as He had said, and the LORD did for Sarah as He had promised. | 1Now the LORD was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did for Sarah what he had promised. |

| 14So Abraham rose early in the morning and took bread and a skin of water and gave them to Hagar, putting them on her shoulder, and gave her the boy, and sent her away. And she departed and wandered about in the wilderness of Beersheba. | 14Early the next morning Abraham took some food and a skin of water and gave them to Hagar. He set them on her shoulders and then sent her off with the boy. She went on her way and wandered in the Desert of Beersheba. |

| 23now therefore, swear to me here by God that you will not deal falsely with me or with my offspring or with my posterity, but according to the kindness that I have shown to you, you shall show to me and to the land in which you have sojourned." | 23Now swear to me here before God that you will not deal falsely with me or my children or my descendants. Show to me and the country where you now reside as a foreigner the same kindness I have shown to you." |

| 26And Abimelech said, "I do not know who has done this thing; you did not tell me, nor did I hear of it until today." | 26But Abimelek said, "I don't know who has done this. You did not tell me, and I heard about it only today." |
| 27Abraham took sheep and oxen and gave them to Abimelech, and the two of them made a covenant. | 27So Abraham brought sheep and cattle and gave them to Abimelek, and the two men made a treaty. |
| 28Then Abraham set seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves. | 28Abraham set apart seven ewe lambs from the flock, |
| 29Abimelech said to Abraham, "What do these seven ewe lambs mean, which you have set by themselves?" | 29and Abimelek asked Abraham, "What is the meaning of these seven ewe lambs you have set apart by themselves?" |
| 30He said, "You shall take these seven ewe lambs from my hand so that it may be a witness to me, that I dug this well." | 30He replied, "Accept these seven lambs from my hand as a witness that I dug this well." |
| 31Therefore he called that place Beersheba, because there the two of them took an oath. | 31So that place was called Beersheba, because the two men swore an oath there. |
| 32So they made a covenant at Beersheba; and Abimelech and Phicol, the commander of his army, arose and returned to the land of the Philistines. | 32After the treaty had been made at Beersheba, Abimelek and Phicol the commander of his forces returned to the land of the Philistines. |
| 33Abraham planted a tamarisk tree at Beersheba, and there he called on the name of the LORD, the Everlasting God. | 33Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and there he called on the name of the LORD, the Eternal God. |
| 34And Abraham sojourned in the land of the Philistines for many days. | 34And Abraham stayed in the land of the Philistines for a long time. |
