Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the ninth hour, the hour of prayer. | 1Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour. |
And a man who had been lame from his mother's womb was being carried along, whom they used to set down every day at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, in order to beg alms of those who were entering the temple. | 2And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; |
When he saw Peter and John about to go into the temple, he began asking to receive alms. | 3Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms. |
But Peter, along with John, fixed his gaze on him and said, "Look at us!" | 4And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. |
And he began to give them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. | 5And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. |
But Peter said, "I do not possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene-- walk!" | 6Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. |
And seizing him by the right hand, he raised him up; and immediately his feet and his ankles were strengthened. | 7And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ancle bones received strength. |
With a leap he stood upright and began to walk; and he entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. | 8And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. |
And all the people saw him walking and praising God; | 9And all the people saw him walking and praising God: |
and they were taking note of him as being the one who used to sit at the Beautiful Gate of the temple to beg alms, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. | 10And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him. |
While he was clinging to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them at the so-called portico of Solomon, full of amazement. | 11And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon's, greatly wondering. |
But when Peter saw this, he replied to the people, "Men of Israel, why are you amazed at this, or why do you gaze at us, as if by our own power or piety we had made him walk? | 12And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk? |
"The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His servant Jesus, the one whom you delivered and disowned in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release Him. | 13The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go. |
"But you disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, | 14But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you; |
but put to death the Prince of life, the one whom God raised from the dead, a fact to which we are witnesses. | 15And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses. |
"And on the basis of faith in His name, it is the name of Jesus which has strengthened this man whom you see and know; and the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect health in the presence of you all. | 16And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. |
"And now, brethren, I know that you acted in ignorance, just as your rulers did also. | 17And now, brethren, I wot that through ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers. |
"But the things which God announced beforehand by the mouth of all the prophets, that His Christ would suffer, He has thus fulfilled. | 18But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled. |
"Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; | 19Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; |
and that He may send Jesus, the Christ appointed for you, | 20And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: |
whom heaven must receive until the period of restoration of all things about which God spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient time. | 21Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began. |
"Moses said, 'THE LORD GOD WILL RAISE UP FOR YOU A PROPHET LIKE ME FROM YOUR BRETHREN; TO HIM YOU SHALL GIVE HEED to everything He says to you. | 22For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. |
'And it will be that every soul that does not heed that prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.' | 23And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people. |
"And likewise, all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and his successors onward, also announced these days. | 24Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days. |
"It is you who are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant which God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, 'AND IN YOUR SEED ALL THE FAMILIES OF THE EARTH SHALL BE BLESSED.' | 25Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. |
"For you first, God raised up His Servant and sent Him to bless you by turning every one of you from your wicked ways." | 26Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities. |
