Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.1With regard to spiritual gifts, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed.
Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.2You know that when you were pagans you were often led astray by speechless idols, however you were led.
Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.3So I want you to understand that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus is cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.
Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.4Now there are different gifts, but the same Spirit.
And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.5And there are different ministries, but the same Lord.
And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.6And there are different results, but the same God who produces all of them in everyone.
But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.7To each person the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the benefit of all.
For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;8For one person is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, and another the message of knowledge according to the same Spirit,
To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;9to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,
To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:10to another performance of miracles, to another prophecy, and to another discernment of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.
But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.11It is one and the same Spirit, distributing as he decides to each person, who produces all these things.
For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.12For just as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body--though many--are one body, so too is Christ.
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.13For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body. Whether Jews or Greeks or slaves or free, we were all made to drink of the one Spirit.
For the body is not one member, but many.14For in fact the body is not a single member, but many.
If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?15If the foot says, "Since I am not a hand, I am not part of the body," it does not lose its membership in the body because of that.
And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?16And if the ear says, "Since I am not an eye, I am not part of the body," it does not lose its membership in the body because of that.
If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?17If the whole body were an eye, what part would do the hearing? If the whole were an ear, what part would exercise the sense of smell?
But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.18But as a matter of fact, God has placed each of the members in the body just as he decided.
And if they were all one member, where were the body?19If they were all the same member, where would the body be?
But now are they many members, yet but one body.20So now there are many members, but one body.
And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.21The eye cannot say to the hand, "I do not need you," nor in turn can the head say to the foot, "I do not need you."
Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:22On the contrary, those members that seem to be weaker are essential,
And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.23and those members we consider less honorable we clothe with greater honor, and our unpresentable members are clothed with dignity,
For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked:24but our presentable members do not need this. Instead, God has blended together the body, giving greater honor to the lesser member,
That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.25so that there may be no division in the body, but the members may have mutual concern for one another.
And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.26If one member suffers, everyone suffers with it. If a member is honored, all rejoice with it.
Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.27Now you are Christ's body, and each of you is a member of it.
And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.28And God has placed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, gifts of healing, helps, gifts of leadership, different kinds of tongues.
Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?29Not all are apostles, are they? Not all are prophets, are they? Not all are teachers, are they? Not all perform miracles, do they?
Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?30Not all have gifts of healing, do they? Not all speak in tongues, do they? Not all interpret, do they?
But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.31But you should be eager for the greater gifts. And now I will show you a way that is beyond comparison.
