1One afternoon, Peter and John were on their way to the Temple for the three o'clock prayer time.

1Peter and John went to the Temple one afternoon to take part in the three o’clock prayer service.

2Now a man who had been crippled from birth was being carried in. Every day people would lay him at what was called the Beautiful Gate so that he could beg from those who were going into the Temple.

2As they approached the Temple, a man lame from birth was being carried in. Each day he was put beside the Temple gate, the one called the Beautiful Gate, so he could beg from the people going into the Temple.

3When he saw that Peter and John were about to go into the Temple, he asked them to give him something.

3When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for some money.

4Peter, along with John, looked him straight in the eye and said, "Look at us!"

4Peter and John looked at him intently, and Peter said, “Look at us!”

5So the man watched them closely, expecting to get something from them.

5The lame man looked at them eagerly, expecting some money.

6However, Peter said, "I don't have any silver or gold, but I'll give you what I do have. In the name of Jesus the Messiah from Nazareth, walk!"

6But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!”

7Then Peter took hold of his right hand and began to help him up. Immediately his feet and ankles became strong,

7Then Peter took the lame man by the right hand and helped him up. And as he did, the man’s feet and ankles were instantly healed and strengthened.

8and he sprang to his feet, stood up, and began to walk. Then he went with them into the Temple, walking, jumping, and praising God.

8He jumped up, stood on his feet, and began to walk! Then, walking, leaping, and praising God, he went into the Temple with them.

9When all the people saw him walking and praising God,

9All the people saw him walking and heard him praising God.

10they knew that he was the man who used to sit and beg at the Beautiful Gate of the Temple, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.

10When they realized he was the lame beggar they had seen so often at the Beautiful Gate, they were absolutely astounded!

11While he was holding on to Peter and John, all the people came running to them in what was called "Solomon's Colonnade". They were dumbfounded.

12When Peter saw this, he told the people: "Fellow Israelis, why are you wondering about this, and why are you staring at us as if by our own power or godliness we made him walk?

12Peter saw his opportunity and addressed the crowd. “People of Israel,” he said, “what is so surprising about this? And why stare at us as though we had made this man walk by our own power or godliness?

13The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—the God of our ancestors—has glorified his servant Jesus, whom you betrayed and rejected in the presence of Pilate, even though he had decided to let him go.

13For it is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—the God of all our ancestors—who has brought glory to his servant Jesus by doing this. This is the same Jesus whom you handed over and rejected before Pilate, despite Pilate’s decision to release him.

14You rejected the Holy and Righteous One and asked to have a murderer released to you,

14You rejected this holy, righteous one and instead demanded the release of a murderer.

15and you killed the source of life, whom God raised from the dead. We are witnesses to that.

15You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. And we are witnesses of this fact!

16It is his name—that is, by faith in his name—that has healed this man whom you see and know. Yes, the faith that comes through Jesus has given him this perfect health in the presence of all of you.

16“Through faith in the name of Jesus, this man was healed—and you know how crippled he was before. Faith in Jesus’ name has healed him before your very eyes.

17"And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance like your leaders.

17“Friends, I realize that what you and your leaders did to Jesus was done in ignorance.

18This is how God fulfilled what he had predicted through the voice of all the prophets—that his Messiah would suffer.

18But God was fulfilling what all the prophets had foretold about the Messiah—that he must suffer these things.

19Therefore, repent and turn to him to have your sins blotted out,

19Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away.

20so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord and so that he may send you Jesus, whom he appointed long ago to be the Messiah.

20Then times of refreshment will come from the presence of the Lord, and he will again send you Jesus, your appointed Messiah.

21He must remain in heaven until the time of universal restitution, which God announced long ago through the voice of his holy prophets.

21For he must remain in heaven until the time for the final restoration of all things, as God promised long ago through his holy prophets.

22In fact, Moses said, 'The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers. You must listen to everything he tells you.

22Moses said, ‘The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from among your own people. Listen carefully to everything he tells you.’

23Any person who will not listen to that prophet will be utterly destroyed from among the people.'

23Then Moses said, ‘Anyone who will not listen to that Prophet will be completely cut off from God’s people.’

24"Indeed, all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those who followed him, also announced these days.

24“Starting with Samuel, every prophet spoke about what is happening today.

25You are the descendants of the prophets and the heirs of the covenant that God made with your ancestors when he told Abraham, 'Through your descendant all the families of the earth will be blessed.'

25You are the children of those prophets, and you are included in the covenant God promised to your ancestors. For God said to Abraham, ‘Through your descendants all the families on earth will be blessed.’

26When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you to bless you by turning every one of you from your evil ways."

26When God raised up his servant, Jesus, he sent him first to you people of Israel, to bless you by turning each of you back from your sinful ways.”
