This is this message from the LORD of the Heavenly Armies:1The word of the LORD of Hosts came: "
"This is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies says: 'I'm greatly jealous about Zion, and that makes me furious about her.'2The LORD of Hosts says this: I am extremely jealous for Zion; I am jealous for her with great wrath."
"This is what the LORD says: 'I will return to Zion and I will live in the midst of Jerusalem. And Jerusalem will be called, "The City of Truth" and the mountain of the LORD of the Heavenly Armies will be called, "The Holy Mountain".'3The LORD says this: "I will return to Zion and live in Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the Faithful City, the mountain of the LORD of Hosts, and the Holy Mountain."
"This is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies says: 'There will yet be old men and old women sitting in the parks of Jerusalem, each one of them holding canes in their hands due to their old age! 4The LORD of Hosts says this: "Old men and women will again sit along the streets of Jerusalem, each with a staff in hand because of advanced age.
The city parks will be filled with boys and girls. They will play in the city's open parks.'5The streets of the city will be filled with boys and girls playing in them."
"This is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies says: 'It may seem impossible to the survivors of this people, but is it impossible for me?' declares the LORD of the Heavenly Armies.6The LORD of Hosts says this: "Though it may seem incredible to the remnant of this people in those days, should it also seem incredible to Me?"--this is the declaration of the LORD of Hosts.
"This is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies says: 'Look! After having saved my people from the land of the east and from the land of the west, 7The LORD of Hosts says this: "I will save My people from the land of the east and the land of the west.
I will also bring them back to live in the midst of Jerusalem. They will be my people and I will truly be their righteous God.'"8I will bring them back to live in Jerusalem. They will be My people, and I will be their faithful and righteous God."
"This is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies says: 'Be strong so the Temple can be built, you who are now listening to this message spoken by the prophets when the foundation was laid to the Temple of the LORD of the Heavenly Armies. 9The LORD of Hosts says this: "Let your hands be strong, you who now hear these words that the prophets spoke when the foundations were laid for the rebuilding of the temple, the house of the LORD of Hosts.
Before then, everyone was unemployed—even the draft animals—and no one was safe coming or going because of the enemy, because I caused everyone to oppose each other. 10For prior to those days neither man nor beast had wages. There was no safety from the enemy for anyone who came or went, for I turned everyone against his neighbor.
"'But now I will not treat the survivors of this people as I did formerly,' declares the LORD of the Heavenly Armies. 11But now, I will not treat the remnant of this people as in the former days"--this is the declaration of the LORD of Hosts. "
For there will be a sowing of peace: the vine will produce its fruit, the earth will produce its full yield, the sky will produce its dew, and I will make the survivors of this people inherit all these things. 12For they will sow in peace: the vine will yield its fruit, the land will yield its produce, and the skies will yield their dew. I will give the remnant of this people all these things as an inheritance.
Furthermore, house of Judah and house of Israel, even though you used to be a curse among the nations, now I will surely save you, and you will be a blessing. Stop being afraid. Instead, grow stronger.'" 13As you have been a curse among the nations, house of Judah and house of Israel, so I will save you, and you will be a blessing. Don't be afraid; let your hands be strong."
"This is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies says: 'Just as I intended to bring harm to you when your ancestors angered me,' says the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, 'and I did not relent, 14For the LORD of Hosts says this: "As I resolved to treat you badly when your fathers provoked Me to anger, and I did not relent," says the LORD of Hosts, "
so I have decided at this time to do good things for Jerusalem and for the house of Judah. So stop being afraid. 15so I have resolved again in these days to do what is good to Jerusalem and the house of Judah. Don't be afraid.
Here's what you must do: tell the truth to your neighbors, administer true and peaceful justice in your courtrooms,16These are the things you must do: Speak truth to one another; make true and sound decisions within your gates.
don't plot evil in your heart against a neighbor, and don't tolerate false testimonies, because I hate all these things,' declares the LORD."17Do not plot evil in your hearts against your neighbor, and do not love perjury, for I hate all this"--this is the LORD's declaration.
Once again this message from the LORD come to me: 18Then the word of the LORD of Hosts came to me: "
"This is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies says: 'The fasts that occur in the fourth, fifth, seventh, and tenth months will be joyful and glad times for the house of Judah, replete with cheerful festivals. Therefore, love truth and peace.'"19The LORD of Hosts says this: The fast of the fourth month, the fast of the fifth, the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth will become times of joy, gladness, and cheerful festivals for the house of Judah. Therefore, love truth and peace."
"This is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies says: 'In the future, people will come, including residents of many cities, 20The LORD of Hosts says this: "Peoples will yet come, the residents of many cities;
and they will travel from one place to another place and say, "Let's go quickly to pray in the presence of the LORD and to inquire of the LORD of the Heavenly Armies.' And I will go, too. 21the residents of one city will go to another, saying: Let's go at once to plead for the LORD's favor and to seek the LORD of Hosts. I am also going.
Many people and powerful nations will come to inquire of the LORD of the Heavenly Armies in Jerusalem, and to pray in the presence of the LORD."'"22Many peoples and strong nations will come to seek the LORD of Hosts in Jerusalem and to plead for the LORD's favor."
"This is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies says: 'In the future, ten men speaking all the languages of the nations will grab hold of one Jewish person by the hem of his garment and say, "Let us go up to Jerusalem with you, because we heard that God is with you."'"23The LORD of Hosts says this: "In those days, 10 men from nations of every language will grab the robe of a Jewish man tightly, urging: Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you."
