| 17“O unbelieving and perverse generation!” Jesus replied. “How long must I remain with you? How long must I put up with you? | 18Then Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed from that moment. | 18And Jesus rebuked him, and the demon came out of him, and the boy was cured at once. |
| 19Afterward the disciples came to Jesus privately and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” | 19Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, "Why could we not drive it out?" |
| 20“Because you have so little faith,” He answered. “For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. | 25“Yes,” he answered. When Peter entered the house, Jesus preempted him. “What do you think, Simon?” He asked. “From whom do the kings of the earth collect customs and taxes: from their own sons, or from others?” | 25He said, "Yes." And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth collect customs or poll-tax, from their sons or from strangers?" |
| 26“From others,” Peter answered. “Then the sons are exempt,” Jesus declared. | 26When Peter said, "From strangers," Jesus said to him, "Then the sons are exempt. |
| 27“But so that we may not offend them, go to the sea, cast a hook, and take the first fish you catch. When you open its mouth, you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for My tax and yours.” | 27"However, so that we do not offend them, go to the sea and throw in a hook, and take the first fish that comes up; and when you open its mouth, you will find a shekel. Take that and give it to them for you and Me." |
