Berean Study BibleInternational Standard Version
Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, set your focus on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess.1Therefore, holy brothers, partners in a heavenly calling, keep your focus on Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession.
He was faithful to the One who appointed Him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house.2He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was in all God's household,
For Jesus has been counted worthy of greater glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself.3because he is worthy of greater glory than Moses in the same way that the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself.
And every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.4After all, every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.
Now Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house, testifying to what would be spoken later.5Moses was faithful in all God's household as a servant who was to testify to what would be said later,
But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are His house, if we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope of which we boast.6but the Messiah was faithful as the Son in charge of God's household, and we are his household if we hold on to our courage and the hope in which we rejoice.
Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you hear His voice,7Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, "Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts, as you did in the rebellion, in the day of testing in the wilderness,8do not harden your hearts as they did when they provoked me during the time of testing in the wilderness.
where your fathers tested and tried Me, and for forty years saw My works.9There your ancestors tested me, even though they had seen my actions
Therefore I was angry with that generation, and I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known My ways.’10for 40 years. That is why I was indignant with that generation and said, 'They are always going astray in their hearts, and they have not known my ways.'
So I swore on oath in My anger, ‘They shall never enter My rest.’ ”11So in my anger I swore a solemn oath that they would never enter my rest."
See to it, brothers, that none of you has a wicked heart of unbelief that turns away from the living God.12See to it, my brothers, that no evil, unbelieving heart is found in any of you, as shown by your turning away from the living God.
But exhort one another daily, as long as it is called today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.13Instead, continue to encourage one another every day, as long as it is called "Today," so that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin,
We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly to the end the assurance we had at first.14because we are the Messiah's partners only if we hold on to our original confidence to the end.
As it has been said: “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts, as you did in the rebellion.”15As it is said, "Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as they did when they provoked me."
For who were the ones who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt?16Now who heard him and provoked him? Was it not all those who came out of Egypt led by Moses?
And with whom was God angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?17And with whom was he angry for 40 years? Was it not with those who sinned and whose bodies fell dead in the wilderness?
And to whom did He swear that they would never enter His rest? Was it not to those who disobeyed?18And to whom did he swear that they would never enter his rest? It was to those who disobeyed him, was it not?
So we see that it was because of their unbelief that they were unable to enter.19So we see that they were unable to enter because of their unbelief.
