Hear this, you elders; listen, all who live in the land. Has anything like this ever happened in your days or in the days of your ancestors?2Hear this, you elders; give ear, all inhabitants of the land! Has such a thing happened in your days, or in the days of your fathers?2Hear this, O elders, And listen, all inhabitants of the land. Has anything like this happened in your days Or in your fathers' days?2Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?2Hear this, you elders; listen, all you inhabitants of the land. Has anything like this ever happened in your days or in the days of your ancestors?
Tell it to your children, and let your children tell it to their children, and their children to the next generation.3Tell your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children to another generation.3Tell your sons about it, And let your sons tell their sons, And their sons the next generation.3Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.3Tell your children about it, and let your children tell their children, and their children the next generation.
What the locust swarm has left the great locusts have eaten; what the great locusts have left the young locusts have eaten; what the young locusts have left other locusts have eaten.4What the cutting locust left, the swarming locust has eaten. What the swarming locust left, the hopping locust has eaten, and what the hopping locust left, the destroying locust has eaten.4What the gnawing locust has left, the swarming locust has eaten; And what the swarming locust has left, the creeping locust has eaten; And what the creeping locust has left, the stripping locust has eaten.4That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten.4What the devouring locust has left, the swarming locust has eaten; what the swarming locust has left, the young locust has eaten; and what the young locust has left, the destroying locust has eaten.

Wake up, you drunkards, and weep! Wail, all you drinkers of wine; wail because of the new wine, for it has been snatched from your lips.5Awake, you drunkards, and weep, and wail, all you drinkers of wine, because of the sweet wine, for it is cut off from your mouth.5Awake, drunkards, and weep; And wail, all you wine drinkers, On account of the sweet wine That is cut off from your mouth.5Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.5Wake up, you drunkards, and weep; wail, all you wine drinkers, because of the sweet wine, for it has been taken from your mouth.
A nation has invaded my land, a mighty army without number; it has the teeth of a lion, the fangs of a lioness.6For a nation has come up against my land, powerful and beyond number; its teeth are lions’ teeth, and it has the fangs of a lioness.6For a nation has invaded my land, Mighty and without number; Its teeth are the teeth of a lion, And it has the fangs of a lioness.6For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion.6For a nation has invaded My land, powerful and without number; its teeth are the teeth of a lion, and it has the fangs of a lioness.
It has laid waste my vines and ruined my fig trees. It has stripped off their bark and thrown it away, leaving their branches white.7It has laid waste my vine and splintered my fig tree; it has stripped off their bark and thrown it down; their branches are made white.7It has made my vine a waste And my fig tree splinters. It has stripped them bare and cast them away; Their branches have become white.7He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.7It has devastated My grapevine and splintered My fig tree. It has stripped off its bark and thrown it away; its branches have turned white.

A Call to Mourning

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
Mourn like a virgin in sackcloth grieving for the betrothed of her youth.8Lament like a virgin wearing sackcloth for the bridegroom of her youth.8Wail like a virgin girded with sackcloth For the bridegroom of her youth.8Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.8Grieve like a young woman dressed in sackcloth, mourning for the husband of her youth.
Grain offerings and drink offerings are cut off from the house of the LORD. The priests are in mourning, those who minister before the LORD.9The grain offering and the drink offering are cut off from the house of the LORD. The priests mourn, the ministers of the LORD.9The grain offering and the drink offering are cut off From the house of the LORD. The priests mourn, The ministers of the LORD.9The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests, the LORD'S ministers, mourn.9Grain and drink offerings have been cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests, who are ministers of the LORD, mourn.
The fields are ruined, the ground is dried up; the grain is destroyed, the new wine is dried up, the olive oil fails.10The fields are destroyed, the ground mourns, because the grain is destroyed, the wine dries up, the oil languishes.10The field is ruined, The land mourns; For the grain is ruined, The new wine dries up, Fresh oil fails.10The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.10The fields are destroyed; the land grieves; indeed, the grain is destroyed; the new wine is dried up; and the olive oil fails.
Despair, you farmers, wail, you vine growers; grieve for the wheat and the barley, because the harvest of the field is destroyed.11Be ashamed, O tillers of the soil; wail, O vinedressers, for the wheat and the barley, because the harvest of the field has perished.11Be ashamed, O farmers, Wail, O vinedressers, For the wheat and the barley; Because the harvest of the field is destroyed.11Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.11Be ashamed, you farmers, wail, you vinedressers, over the wheat and the barley, because the harvest of the field has perished.
The vine is dried up and the fig tree is withered; the pomegranate, the palm and the apple tree-- all the trees of the field--are dried up. Surely the people's joy is withered away.12The vine dries up; the fig tree languishes. Pomegranate, palm, and apple, all the trees of the field are dried up, and gladness dries up from the children of man.12The vine dries up And the fig tree fails; The pomegranate, the palm also, and the apple tree, All the trees of the field dry up. Indeed, rejoicing dries up From the sons of men.12The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men.12The grapevine is dried up, and the fig tree is withered; the pomegranate, the date palm, and the apple-- all the trees of the orchard--have withered. Indeed, human joy has dried up.

For the day of the LORD is near, and as destruction from the Almighty it comes.15Alas for the day! For the day of the LORD is near, And it will come as destruction from the Almighty.15Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.15Woe because of that day! For the Day of the LORD is near and will come as devastation from the Almighty.
Has not the food been cut off before our very eyes-- joy and gladness from the house of our God?16Is not the food cut off before our eyes, joy and gladness from the house of our God?16Has not food been cut off before our eyes, Gladness and joy from the house of our God?16Is not the meat cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God?16Hasn't the food been cut off before our eyes, joy and gladness from the house of our God?

The seeds are shriveled beneath the clods. The storehouses are in ruins, the granaries have been broken down, for the grain has dried up.17The seed shrivels under the clods; the storehouses are desolate; the granaries are torn down because the grain has dried up.17The seeds shrivel under their clods; The storehouses are desolate, The barns are torn down, For the grain is dried up.17The seed is rotten under their clods, the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.17The seeds lie shriveled in their casings. The storehouses are in ruin, and the granaries are broken down, because the grain has withered away.
How the cattle moan! The herds mill about because they have no pasture; even the flocks of sheep are suffering.18How the beasts groan! The herds of cattle are perplexed because there is no pasture for them; even the flocks of sheep suffer.18How the beasts groan! The herds of cattle wander aimlessly Because there is no pasture for them; Even the flocks of sheep suffer.18How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.18How the animals groan! The herds of cattle wander in confusion since they have no pasture. Even the flocks of sheep suffer punishment.
To you, LORD, I call, for fire has devoured the pastures in the wilderness and flames have burned up all the trees of the field.19To you, O LORD, I call. For fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and flame has burned all the trees of the field.19To You, O LORD, I cry; For fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness And the flame has burned up all the trees of the field.19O LORD, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.19I call to You, LORD, for fire has consumed the pastures of the wilderness, and flames have devoured all the trees of the countryside.
Even the wild animals pant for you; the streams of water have dried up and fire has devoured the pastures in the wilderness.20Even the beasts of the field pant for you because the water brooks are dried up, and fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness.20Even the beasts of the field pant for You; For the water brooks are dried up And fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness.20The beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.20Even the wild animals cry out to You, for the river beds are dried up, and fire has consumed the pastures of the wilderness.
