…13And I said: Then have I in vain justified my heart, and washed my hands among the innocent. 14And I have been scourged all the day; and my chastisement hath been in the mornings.15If I said: I will speak thus; behold I should condemn the generation of thy children.…
He rebuketh also by sorrow in the bed, and he maketh all his bones to wither.
I am become miserable, and am bowed down even to the end: I walked sorrowful all the day long.
They are not in the labour of men: neither shall they be scourged like other men.
And I said, Now have I begun: this is the change of the right hand of the most High.
The Lord chastising hath chastised me: but he hath not delivered me over to death.
There is also another vanity, which is done upon the earth. There are just men to whom evils happen, as though they had done the works of the wicked: and there are wicked men, who are as secure as though they had the deeds of the just: but this also I judge most vain.
My generation is at an end, and it is rolled away from me, as a shepherd's tent. My life is cut off, as by a weaver: whilst I was yet but beginning, he cut me off: from morning even to night thou wilt make an end of me.
