Berean Literal Bible
The Woman Caught in Adultery
1But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
2And early in the morning again He came into the temple, and all the people were coming to Him. And having sat down, He was teaching them. 3Now the scribes and the Pharisees bring to Him a woman having been caught in adultery, and having set her in the midst, 4they say to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the very act, committing adultery. 5Now in the Law Moses commanded us such to be stoned. You therefore, what do You say?”
6Now they were saying this testing Him, so that they might have grounds to accuse Him. But Jesus, having stooped down, began writing with His finger on the ground.
7But as they continued asking Him, having lifted Himself up, also He said to them, “The one sinless among you, let him cast the first stone at her.” 8And again having stooped down, He continued to write on the ground.
9And having heard,a they began to go away one by one, having begun from the elder ones until the last, and He was left alone, Jesus and the woman being in the midst. 10And having lifted up,b Jesus said to her, “Woman where are they who accuse you?c Has no one condemned you?”
11And she said, “No one, Sir.”
And to her Jesus said, “Neither I do condemn you. Go and sin no more from now on.”
Jesus the Light of the World
12Therefore Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. The one following Me shall not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.”
13Therefore the Pharisees said to Him, “You are bearing witness concerning Yourself; Your testimony is not true.”
14Jesus answered and said to them, “Even if I am bearing witness concerning Myself, My testimony is true, because I know from where I came and where I am going. But you do not know from where I come or where I am going.
19Therefore they were saying to Him, “Where is Your Father?”
Jesus answered, “You know neither Me nor My Father. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also.”
20He spoke these words in the treasury, teaching in the temple; and no one seized Him, for His hour had not yet come.
21Then He said to them again, “I am going away and you will seek Me, and you will die in your sin. Where I go, you are not able to come.”
22Therefore the Jews were saying, “Will He kill Himself, that He says, ‘Where I go, you are not able to come’?”
23And He was saying to them, “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. 24Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”
25Therefore they were saying to Him, “Who are You?”
Jesus said to them, “Just what I am saying to you from the beginning. 26I have many things to say and to judge concerning you. But the One having sent Me is true; and I what I have heard from Him, these things I say to the world.”
27They did not understand that He was speaking to them about the Father. 28Therefore Jesus said to them, “When you shall have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and I do nothing from Myself; but as the Father taught Me, I speak these things. 29And the One having sent Me is with Me. He has not left Me alone, because I always do the things pleasing to Him.”
The Truth will Set You Free
30Of His speaking these things, many believed in Him. 31Therefore Jesus was saying to the Jews having believed in Him, “If you abide in My word, you are truly My disciples. 32And you will know the truth, and the truth will set free you.”
33They answered unto Him, “We are Abraham’s seed, and to no one ever have we been under bondage. How do You say, ‘You will become free’?”
34Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you that everyone practicing the sin is a slave of the sin. 35Now the slave does not abide in the house to the age; the son abides to the age. 36So if the Son shall set you free, you will be free indeed.
The Children of the Devil
37I know that you are Abraham’s seed; but you seek to kill Me because My word receives no place in you. 38I speak that which I have seen with the Father; therefore you also do what you have heard from your father.”
39They answered and said to Him, “Abraham is our father.”
Jesus says to them, “If you were children of Abraham, you would do the works of Abraham. 40But now you seek to kill Me, a man who has spoken to you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do this. 41You are doing the works of your father.”
Therefore they said to Him, “We have not been born of sexual immorality. We have one Father, God.”
42Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would have loved Me, for I came forth from God and am here; for not even have I come of Myself, but He sent Me.
43Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to hear My word. 44You are of your father the devil, and you desire to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has not stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. Whenever he might speak falsehood, he speaks from the own; for he is a liar, and the father of it. 45Now because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me!
Before Abraham was Born, I Am
48The Jews answered and said to Him, “Are we not rightly saying that You are a Samaritan and have a demon?”
49Jesus answered, “I do not have a demon, but I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me. 50Yet I do not seek My glory; there is One seeking it and judging. 51Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word, he shall never see death, to the age.”
52Therefore the Jews said to Him, “Now we know that You have a demon. Abraham and the prophets died, and You say, ‘If anyone keeps My word, he shall never taste of death, to the age.’ 53Are You greater than our father Abraham, who died? And the prophets died! Whom do You make yourself?”
54Jesus answered, “If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing; it is My Father glorifying Me, of whom you say, ‘He is ourd God.’ 55And you have not known Him, but I know Him. And if I say that I do not know Him, I will be a liar like you. But I know Him, and I keep His word. 56Abraham your father rejoiced in that he should see My day—and he saw it and rejoiced.”
57Therefore the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and You have seen Abraham?”
58Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.”a 9 NE, BYZ, and TR include and were convicted by their conscience
