Jesus the True Vine
(Isaiah 27:1–13)

1 I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2Every branch not bearing fruit in Me, He takes it away; and every one bearing fruit, He prunes it clean so that it may bear more fruit. 3Already you⁺ are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you⁺. 4Remain in Me, and I in you⁺. As the branch is not able to bear fruit of itself unless it remains in the vine, so neither you⁺, unless you⁺ remain in Me.

5I am the vine; you⁺ are the branches. The one remaining in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit. For apart from Me you⁺ are able to do nothing. 6If anyone does not remain in Me, he is thrown out like the branch and is dried up; and they gather them and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. 7If you⁺ remain in Me and My words remain in you⁺, you⁺ shall ask whatever you⁺ wish, and to you⁺ it will come to pass. 8In this My Father is glorified, that you⁺ should bear much fruit, and you⁺ shall be My disciples.

No Greater Love

9As the Father has loved Me, I also have loved you⁺. Remain in My love. 10If you⁺ keep My commandments, you⁺ will abide in My love, as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. 11These things I have spoken to you⁺ so that My joy may be in you⁺ and your⁺ joy may be full.

12This is My commandment, that you⁺ should love one another as I have loved you⁺. 13Greater love has no one than this, that one should lay down his life for his friends.

14You⁺ are My friends if you⁺ do what I command you⁺. 15No longer do I call you⁺ servants, because the servant does not know what his master is doing. But I have called you⁺ friends, because all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you⁺. 16You⁺ did not choose Me, but I chose you⁺, and I appointed you⁺ so that you⁺ should go and bear fruit, and that your⁺ fruit should remain, so that whatever you⁺ might ask the Father in My name, He may give you⁺. 17These things I command you⁺, that you⁺ love one another.

The Hatred of the World

18If the world hates you⁺, you⁺ know that it has hated Me before you⁺. 19If you⁺ were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you⁺ are not of the world, but I chose you⁺ out of the world, on account of this, the world hates you⁺.

20Remember the word that I said to you⁺: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you⁺; if they kept My word, they will keep yours⁺ also. 21But they will do all these things against you⁺ on account of My name, because they do not know the One having sent Me. 22If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have had sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.

23The one hating Me hates My Father also. 24If I had not done among them the works that no other has done, they would not have had sin; but now they have both seen and hated both Me and My Father. 25But this is so that the word having been written in their Law may be fulfilled: ‘They hated Me without cause.’

26When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you⁺ from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes forth from the Father, He will testify about Me. 27And you⁺ also testify, because you⁺ are with Me from the beginning.
