Tried but Trusting

תְּפִלָּ֗ה (A Prayer) לְדָ֫וִ֥ד (of David).

1הַטֵּֽה־ (Incline), יְהוָ֣ה (O YHWH), אָזְנְךָ֣ (Your ear);

עֲנֵ֑נִי (answer me), כִּֽי־ (for) עָנִ֖י (afflicted) וְאֶבְי֣וֹן (and in need) אָֽנִי׃ (am I).

2  שָֽׁמְרָ֣ה (May You guard) נַפְשִׁי֮ (my life), כִּֽי־ (for) חָסִ֪יד (faithful) אָ֥נִי (am I);

הוֹשַׁ֣ע (may You save) עַ֭בְדְּךָ (Your servant)— אַתָּ֣ה (You) אֱלֹהַ֑י (my God)— הַבּוֹטֵ֥חַ (the one trusting) אֵלֶֽיךָ׃ (in You).

3  חָנֵּ֥נִי (Show favor to me), אֲדֹנָ֑י (O Lord),

כִּ֥י (for) אֵלֶ֥יךָ (to You) אֶ֝קְרָ֗א (I call out) כָּל־ (all) הַיּֽוֹם׃ (the day).

4  שַׂ֭מֵּחַ (Make glad) נֶ֣פֶשׁ (the soul) עַבְדֶּ֑ךָ (of Your servant),

כִּ֥י (for) אֵלֶ֥יךָ (to You), אֲ֝דֹנָ֗י (O Lord), נַפְשִׁ֥י (my soul) אֶשָּֽׂא׃ (I lift up).

5  כִּֽי־ (For) אַתָּ֣ה (You), אֲ֭דֹנָי (O Lord), ט֣וֹב (are good) וְסַלָּ֑ח (and forgiving),

וְרַב־ (and abundant) חֶ֝֗סֶד (in loving devotion) לְכָל־ (to all) קֹרְאֶֽיךָ׃ (those calling on You).

6  הַאֲזִ֣ינָה (Give ear), יְ֭הוָה (O YHWH), תְּפִלָּתִ֑י (to my prayer),

וְ֝הַקְשִׁ֗יבָה (and attend) בְּק֣וֹל (to the voice) תַּחֲנוּנוֹתָֽי׃ (of my pleas).

7  בְּי֣וֹם (In the day) צָ֭רָתִ֥י (of my distress) אֶקְרָאֶ֗ךָּ (I call on you),

כִּ֣י (for) תַעֲנֵֽנִי׃ (You will answer me).

8  אֵין־ (None) כָּמ֖וֹךָ (like You) בָאֱלֹהִ֥ים׀ (is among the gods), אֲדֹנָ֗י (O Lord);

וְאֵ֣ין (and not any) כְּֽמַעֲשֶֽׂיךָ׃ (like Your works).

9  כָּל־ (All) גּוֹיִ֤ם׀ (the nations) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (whom) עָשִׂ֗יתָ (You have made)

יָב֤וֹאוּ׀ (shall come) וְיִשְׁתַּחֲו֣וּ (and bow down) לְפָנֶ֣יךָ (before Your face), אֲדֹנָ֑י (O Lord),

וִֽיכַבְּד֣וּ (and they will glorify) לִשְׁמֶֽךָ׃ (Your name).

10  כִּֽי־ (For) גָד֣וֹל (great) אַ֭תָּה (You are), וְעֹשֵׂ֣ה (and the One doing) נִפְלָא֑וֹת (wonders);

אַתָּ֖ה (You are) אֱלֹהִ֣ים (God) לְבַדֶּֽךָ׃ (You alone).

11  ה֘וֹרֵ֤נִי (Instruct me), יְהוָ֨ה׀ (O YHWH), דַּרְכֶּ֗ךָ (in Your way);

אֲהַלֵּ֥ךְ (and I will walk) בַּאֲמִתֶּ֑ךָ (in Your truth).

יַחֵ֥ד (Unite) לְ֝בָבִ֗י (my heart)

לְיִרְאָ֥ה (to fear) שְׁמֶֽךָ׃ (Your name).

12  אוֹדְךָ֤׀ (I will confess You), אֲדֹנָ֣י (O Lord) אֱ֭לֹהַי (my God), בְּכָל־ (with all) לְבָבִ֑י (my heart),

וַאֲכַבְּדָ֖ה (and I will glorify) שִׁמְךָ֣ (Your name) לְעוֹלָֽם׃ (forever).

13  כִּֽי־ (For) חַ֭סְדְּךָ (Your loving devotion) גָּד֣וֹל (is great) עָלָ֑י (toward me)

וְהִצַּ֥לְתָּ (and You have delivered) נַ֝פְשִׁ֗י (my soul) מִשְּׁא֥וֹל (from Sheol), תַּחְתִּיָּֽה׃ (from the depths).

14  אֱלֹהִ֤ים׀ (O God), זֵ֘דִ֤ים (arrogant ones) קָֽמוּ־ (have risen) עָלַ֗י (against me),

וַעֲדַ֣ת (and a gathering) עָ֭רִיצִים (of ruthless ones) בִּקְשׁ֣וּ (have sought) נַפְשִׁ֑י (my life),

וְלֹ֖א (and not) שָׂמ֣וּךָ (they have set You) לְנֶגְדָּֽם׃ (before them).

15  וְאַתָּ֣ה (And You), אֲ֭דֹנָי (O Lord), אֵל־ (are a God) רַח֣וּם (compassionate) וְחַנּ֑וּן (and gracious),

אֶ֥רֶךְ (slow to) אַ֝פַּ֗יִם (anger), וְרַב־ (and abounding in) חֶ֥סֶד (in loving devotion) וֶאֱמֶֽת׃ (and faithfulness).

16  פְּנֵ֥ה (Turn) אֵלַ֗י (to me) וְחָ֫נֵּ֥נִי (and show favor to me);

תְּנָֽה־ (give) עֻזְּךָ֥ (Your strength) לְעַבְדֶּ֑ךָ (to Your servant),

וְ֝הוֹשִׁ֗יעָה (and give salvation) לְבֶן־ (to the son) אֲמָתֶֽךָ׃ (of Your maidservant).

17  עֲשֵֽׂה־ (Make) עִמִּ֥י (with me) א֗וֹת (a sign) לְט֫וֹבָ֥ה (for good),

וְיִרְא֣וּ (will see it) שֹׂנְאַ֣י (and those hating me) וְיֵבֹ֑שׁוּ (and be put to shame),

כִּֽי־ (for) אַתָּ֥ה (You), יְ֝הוָ֗ה (YHWH), עֲזַרְתַּ֥נִי (have helped me) וְנִחַמְתָּֽנִי׃ (and comforted me).
