Laws for Burnt Offerings
(Leviticus 6:8–13)

1  וַיִּקְרָ֖א (And He called) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֑ה (Moses) וַיְדַבֵּ֤ר (and spoke) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) אֵלָ֔יו (to him) מֵאֹ֥הֶל (from the Tent) מוֹעֵ֖ד (of Meeting), לֵאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 2  דַּבֵּ֞ר (Speak) אֶל־ (to) בְּנֵ֤י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ (of Israel), וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ (and say) אֲלֵהֶ֔ם (to them): אָדָ֗ם (Any man) כִּֽי־ (when) יַקְרִ֥יב (brings near) מִכֶּ֛ם (from you⁺) קָרְבָּ֖ן (an offering) לַֽיהוָ֑ה (to YHWH) מִן־ (from) הַבְּהֵמָ֗ה (the livestock), מִן־ (from) הַבָּקָר֙ (the herd), וּמִן־ (or from) הַצֹּ֔אן (the flock). תַּקְרִ֖יבוּ (You⁺ shall bring near) אֶת־ (-) קָרְבַּנְכֶֽם׃ (your⁺ offering).

3  אִם־ (If) עֹלָ֤ה (is a burnt offering) קָרְבָּנוֹ֙ (his offering) מִן־ (from) הַבָּקָ֔ר (the herd), זָכָ֥ר (a male) תָּמִ֖ים (unblemished) יַקְרִיבֶ֑נּוּ (he shall bring near). אֶל־ (To) פֶּ֝תַח (the door) אֹ֤הֶל (of the Tent) מוֹעֵד֙ (of Meeting) יַקְרִ֣יב (he shall bring near) אֹת֔וֹ (it) לִרְצֹנ֖וֹ (of his own free will) לִפְנֵ֥י (before the face of) יְהוָֽה׃ (YHWH). 4  וְסָמַ֣ךְ (And he shall lay) יָד֔וֹ (his hand) עַ֖ל (on) רֹ֣אשׁ (the head) הָעֹלָ֑ה (of the burnt offering), וְנִרְצָ֥ה (and it will be accepted) ל֖וֹ (for him) לְכַפֵּ֥ר (to make atonement) עָלָֽיו׃ (upon him).

5  וְשָׁחַ֛ט (And he shall slaughter) אֶת־ (-) בֶּ֥ן (the son) הַבָּקָ֖ר (of the herd) לִפְנֵ֣י (before the face of) יְהוָ֑ה (YHWH), וְ֠הִקְרִיבוּ (and shall bring near) בְּנֵ֨י (sons) אַהֲרֹ֤ן (of Aaron), הַֽכֹּֽהֲנִים֙ (the priests) אֶת־ (-), הַדָּ֔ם (the blood), וְזָרְק֨וּ (and they shall sprinkle) אֶת־ (-) הַדָּ֤ם (the blood) עַל־ (on) הַמִּזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ (the altar) סָבִ֔יב (all around), אֲשֶׁר־ (which) פֶּ֖תַח (is at the door) אֹ֥הֶל (to the Tent) מוֹעֵֽד׃ (of Meeting). 6  וְהִפְשִׁ֖יט (And he shall skin) אֶת־ (-) הָעֹלָ֑ה (the burnt offering) וְנִתַּ֥ח (and he shall cut) אֹתָ֖הּ (it) לִנְתָחֶֽיהָ׃ (into its pieces).

7  וְ֠נָתְנוּ (And shall put) בְּנֵ֨י (the sons) אַהֲרֹ֧ן (of Aaron) הַכֹּהֵ֛ן (the priest) אֵ֖שׁ (fire) עַל־ (on) הַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַ (the altar), וְעָרְכ֥וּ (and they shall arrange) עֵצִ֖ים (the wood) עַל־ (on) הָאֵֽשׁ׃ (the fire). 8  וְעָרְכ֗וּ (And shall arrange) בְּנֵ֤י (sons) אַהֲרֹן֙ (of Aaron), הַכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים (the priests), אֵ֚ת (-) הַנְּתָחִ֔ים (the pieces) אֶת־ (with) הָרֹ֖אשׁ (the head), וְאֶת־ (and with) הַפָּ֑דֶר (the fat) עַל־ (on) הָעֵצִים֙ (the wood) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) עַל־ (is on) הָאֵ֔שׁ (the fire) אֲשֶׁ֖ר (that) עַל־ (is on) הַמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃ (the altar). 9  וְקִרְבּ֥וֹ (And its entrails) וּכְרָעָ֖יו (and its legs) יִרְחַ֣ץ (he shall wash) בַּמָּ֑יִם (with the water), וְהִקְטִ֨יר (and shall burn) הַכֹּהֵ֤ן (the priest) אֶת־ (-) הַכֹּל֙ (all of it) הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חָה (on the altar) עֹלָ֛ה (a burnt offering), אִשֵּׁ֥ה (a fire offering), רֵֽיחַ־ (an aroma) נִיח֖וֹחַ (pleasing) לַֽיהוָֽה׃ס (to YHWH).

10  וְאִם־ (And if) מִן־ (from) הַצֹּ֨אן (the flock) קָרְבָּנ֧וֹ (his offering is)— מִן־ (from) הַכְּשָׂבִ֛ים (the sheep), א֥וֹ (or) מִן־ (from) הָעִזִּ֖ים (the goats)— לְעֹלָ֑ה (for a burnt offering) זָכָ֥ר (a male) תָּמִ֖ים (unblemished) יַקְרִיבֶֽנּוּ׃ (he shall bring near). 11  וְשָׁחַ֨ט (And he shall slaughter) אֹת֜וֹ (it) עַ֣ל (on) יֶ֧רֶךְ (the side) הַמִּזְבֵּ֛חַ (of the altar) צָפֹ֖נָה (north) לִפְנֵ֣י (before the face of) יְהוָ֑ה (YHWH), וְזָרְק֡וּ (and shall sprinkle) בְּנֵי֩ (sons) אַהֲרֹ֨ן (of Aaron), הַכֹּהֲנִ֧ים (the priests), אֶת־ (-) דָּמ֛וֹ (its blood) עַל־ (on) הַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַ (the altar) סָבִֽיב׃ (all around). 12  וְנִתַּ֤ח (And he shall cut) אֹתוֹ֙ (it) לִנְתָחָ֔יו (into its pieces), וְאֶת־ (and with) רֹאשׁ֖וֹ (its head) וְאֶת־ (and with) פִּדְר֑וֹ (its fat), וְעָרַ֤ךְ (and shall arrange them) הַכֹּהֵן֙ (the priest) אֹתָ֔ם (-) עַל־ (on) הָֽעֵצִים֙ (the wood) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that is) עַל־ (on) הָאֵ֔שׁ (the fire) אֲשֶׁ֖ר (that) עַל־ (is on) הַמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃ (the altar). 13  וְהַקֶּ֥רֶב (And the entrails) וְהַכְּרָעַ֖יִם (and the legs) יִרְחַ֣ץ (he shall wash) בַּמָּ֑יִם (with the water). וְהִקְרִ֨יב (And shall bring) הַכֹּהֵ֤ן (the priest) אֶת־ (-) הַכֹּל֙ (all of it) וְהִקְטִ֣יר (and burn it) הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חָה (on the altar); עֹלָ֣ה (a burnt offering) ה֗וּא (it is), אִשֵּׁ֛ה (a fire offering), רֵ֥יחַ (an aroma) נִיחֹ֖חַ (pleasing) לַיהוָֽה׃פ (to YHWH).

14  וְאִ֧ם (And if) מִן־ (from) הָע֛וֹף (the bird) עֹלָ֥ה (the burnt offering is) קָרְבָּנ֖וֹ (his offering) לַֽיהוָ֑ה (to YHWH), וְהִקְרִ֣יב (then he shall bring near) מִן־ (from) הַתֹּרִ֗ים (the turtledoves) א֛וֹ (or) מִן־ (from) בְּנֵ֥י (the sons) הַיּוֹנָ֖ה (of the pigeon) אֶת־ (-) קָרְבָּנֽוֹ׃ (his offering). 15  וְהִקְרִיב֤וֹ (Shall bring it near) הַכֹּהֵן֙ (the priest) אֶל־ (to) הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חַ (the altar), וּמָלַק֙ (and he shall wring off) אֶת־ (-) רֹאשׁ֔וֹ (its head), וְהִקְטִ֖יר (and he shall burn it) הַמִּזְבֵּ֑חָה (on the altar); וְנִמְצָ֣ה (and shall be drained out) דָמ֔וֹ (its blood) עַ֖ל (upon) קִ֥יר (the side) הַמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃ (of the altar). 16  וְהֵסִ֥יר (And he shall remove) אֶת־ (-) מֻרְאָת֖וֹ (its crop) בְּנֹצָתָ֑הּ (with its feathers), וְהִשְׁלִ֨יךְ (and he shall cast) אֹתָ֜הּ (it) אֵ֤צֶל (beside) הַמִּזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ (the altar) קֵ֔דְמָה (eastward), אֶל־ (into) מְק֖וֹם (the place) הַדָּֽשֶׁן׃ (of the ashes). 17  וְשִׁסַּ֨ע (And he shall split) אֹת֣וֹ (it) בִכְנָפָיו֮ (by its wings), לֹ֣א (not) יַבְדִּיל֒ (he shall divide it completely), וְהִקְטִ֨יר (and shall burn) אֹת֤וֹ (it) הַכֹּהֵן֙ (the priest) הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חָה (on the altar) עַל־ (on) הָעֵצִ֖ים (the wood) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that is) עַל־ (on) הָאֵ֑שׁ (the fire). עֹלָ֣ה (A burnt offering) ה֗וּא (it is), אִשֵּׁ֛ה (a fire offering), רֵ֥יחַ (an aroma) נִיחֹ֖חַ (pleasing) לַיהוָֽה׃ס (to YHWH).
