Jeremiah 47

Judgment on the Philistines
(Zephaniah 2:4–7)

1  אֲשֶׁ֨ר (When) הָיָ֧ה (was) דְבַר־ (the word) יְהוָ֛ה (of YHWH) אֶל־ (to) יִרְמְיָ֥הוּ (Jeremiah) הַנָּבִ֖יא (the prophet) אֶל־ (regarding) פְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים (the Philistines), בְּטֶ֛רֶם (before) יַכֶּ֥ה (struck them) פַרְעֹ֖ה (Pharaoh) אֶת־ (-) עַזָּֽה׃ס (Gaza). 2  כֹּ֣ה׀ (Thus) אָמַ֣ר (says) יְהוָ֗ה (YHWH);

הִנֵּה־ (Behold), מַ֜יִם (the waters) עֹלִ֤ים (are coming up) מִצָּפוֹן֙ (from the north),

וְהָיוּ֙ (and they will be) לְנַ֣חַל (as a flood), שׁוֹטֵ֔ף (overwhelming)

וְיִשְׁטְפוּ֙ (and they will overwhelm) אֶ֣רֶץ (the land), וּמְלוֹאָ֔הּ (and its fullness)

עִ֖יר (the city), וְיֹ֣שְׁבֵי (and those dwelling) בָ֑הּ (in it)

וְזָֽעֲקוּ֙ (and will cry out), הָֽאָדָ֔ם (and man)

וְהֵילִ֕ל (and will wail). כֹּ֖ל (All) יוֹשֵׁ֥ב (the dwellers) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (of the land).

3  מִקּ֗וֹל (Before the sound) שַֽׁעֲטַת֙ (of the stamping) פַּרְס֣וֹת (of the hooves) אַבִּירָ֔יו (of his mighty ones)

מֵרַ֣עַשׁ (from the quaking) לְרִכְבּ֔וֹ (of his chariots),

הֲמ֖וֹן (the rumbling) גַּלְגִּלָּ֑יו (of his wheels),

לֹֽא־ (not) הִפְנ֤וּ (turn back) אָבוֹת֙ (the fathers) אֶל־ (toward) בָּנִ֔ים (the sons)

מֵֽרִפְי֖וֹן (from feebleness) יָדָֽיִם׃ (of hands);

4  עַל־ (For) הַיּ֗וֹם (the day) הַבָּא֙ (is coming)

לִשְׁד֣וֹד (to destroy) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים (the Philistines),

לְהַכְרִ֤ית (to cut off) לְצֹר֙ (from Tyre) וּלְצִיד֔וֹן (and Sidon)

כֹּ֖ל (every) שָׂרִ֣יד (remaining one); עֹזֵ֑ר (giving help)

כִּֽי־ (for) שֹׁדֵ֤ד (will destroy) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים (the Philistines),

שְׁאֵרִ֖ית (the remnant) אִ֥י (from the coast) כַפְתּֽוֹר׃ (of Caphtor).

5  בָּ֤אָה (Has come) קָרְחָה֙ (baldness) אֶל־ (to) עַזָּ֔ה (Gaza);

נִדְמְתָ֥ה (has been cut off) אַשְׁקְל֖וֹן (Ashkelon)

שְׁאֵרִ֣ית (O remnant) עִמְקָ֑ם (of their valley),

עַד־ (until) מָתַ֖י (when) תִּתְגּוֹדָֽדִי׃ס (will you cut yourself)?

6  ה֗וֹי (Oh) חֶ֚רֶב (you sword) לַֽיהוָ֔ה (of YHWH)

עַד־ (until) אָ֖נָה (when) לֹ֣א (not) תִשְׁקֹ֑טִי (will you be quiet)?

הֵאָֽסְפִי֙ (Be removed) אַל־ (to) תַּעְרֵ֔ךְ (your sheath),

הֵרָגְעִ֖י (rest), וָדֹֽמִּי׃ (and be silent).

7  אֵ֣יךְ (How) תִּשְׁקֹ֔טִי (can it be quiet),

וַֽיהוָ֖ה (when YHWH) צִוָּה־ (has given a command) לָ֑הּ (to it)

אֶֽל־ (Against) אַשְׁקְל֛וֹן (Ashkelon), וְאֶל־ (and against) ח֥וֹף (the coast)? הַיָּ֖ם (Of the sea)

שָׁ֥ם (there) יְעָדָֽהּ׃ס (He has appointed it).
