The Resurrection 1Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene cometh early in the morning, while it was yet dark, to the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre. 2She therefore runneth and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid Him. 3Peter therefore went out, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre. 4So they both ran together, but the other disciple out-ran Peter, and came first to the sepulchre: 5and stooping down to look in saw the linen cloths lying; but did not go in. 6Then cometh Simon Peter, who followed him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen cloths lying there; 7and the napkin that was upon his head, not laid with the linen cloths, but folded up by itself. 8Then went in also the other disciple; who came first to the sepulchre, and he saw and believed. 9For they did not before understand the scripture, that He must rise from the dead. Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene 10So the two disciples went away again to their own company.
But Mary stood without near the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept she stooped down to look into the sepulchre; and there seeth two angels in white sitting,
one at the head, and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
And they said to her, Woman, why dost thou weep? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid Him.
And having said this, she turned back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.
Then said Jesus to her, Jesus Appears to the Disciples 19Now the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, and the doors where the disciples were being shut, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Jesus Appears to Thomas 24But Thomas called Didymus, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.
The other disciples therefore told him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and my hand into his side, I will not believe.
And after eight days his disciples were again within, and Thomas with them: and Jesus came (the doors being shut as before) and stood in the midst, and said, The Purpose of John’s Book 30And indeed Jesus wrought many other signs also in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:
but these things are written, that ye may believe, that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye may have life through his name. Worsley's New Testament (1770) Digital Text Courtesy TheWord.net Bible Software. Section Headings Courtesy Berean Bible. |
