John 16
Tyndale New Testament
1These things have I said unto you be cause ye should not be hurt in your faith. 2They shall excommunicate you: yea the time shall come, that whosoever killeth you, will think that he doth God true service. 3And such things will they do unto you, because they have not known the father neither yet me. 4These things have I told you, that when that hour is come, ye might remember then, that I told you so. These things said I not unto you at the beginning, because I was present with you.

5But now go I my way to him that sent me, and none of you asketh me: whither goest thou? 6but because I have said such things unto you, your hearts are full of sorrow. 7Nevertheless I tell you the truth it is expedient for you that I go away. For if I go not away, that comforter will not come unto you. But if I depart, I will send him unto you. 8And when he is come, he will rebuke the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgement. 9Of sin, because they believe not on me: 10Of righteousness, because I go to my father, and ye shall see me no more: 11And of judgement, because the chief ruler of this world, is judged all ready.

12I have yet many things to say unto you: but ye cannot bear them away now. 13When he is once come (I mean the spirit of verity,) he will lead you into all truth. He shall not speak of himself: but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak, and he will shew you things to come. 14He shall glorify me, for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew unto you. 15All things that my father hath are mine. Therefore said I unto you that he shall take of mine and shew unto you.

16After a while ye shall not see me, and again after a while ye shall see me: For I go to my father. 17Then said some of his disciples between themselves: what is this that he saith unto us, after a while ye shall not see me, and again after a while ye shall see me: and that I go to my father. 18They said therefore: what is this that he saith after a while? we cannot tell what he saith. 19Iesus perceived, that they would ask him, and said unto them: This is it that ye enquire of between yourselves, that I said, after a while ye shall not see me, and again after a while ye shall see me. 20Verily verily I say unto you: ye shall weep and lament, and the world shall rejoice. Ye shall sorrow: but your sorrow shall be turned to joy. 21A woman when she travaileth hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of her child she remembreth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. 22And ye now are in sorrow: but I will see you again, and your hearts shall rejoice, and your joy shall no man take from you.

23And in that day shall ye ask me no question. Verily verily I say unto you, whatsoever ye shall ask the father in my name, he will give it you. 24Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name. Ask and ye shall receive it: that your joy may be full.

25These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs. The time will come when I shall no more speak to you in proverbs: but I shall shew you plainly from my father. 26At that day shall ye ask in mine name. And I say not unto you that I will speak unto my father for you. 27For my father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God. 28I went out from the father, and came into the world: and I leave the world again, and go to the father.

29His disciples said unto him: lo now speakest thou plainly, and thou usest no proverb. 30Now know we that thou understandest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee any question. Therefore believe we that thou camest from God. 31Iesus answered them: Now ye do believe. 32Behold the hour draweth nye, and is already come, that ye shall be scattered every man his ways, and shall leave me alone. And yet am I not alone. For my father is with me. 33These words have I spoken unto you that in me ye might have peace. In the world shall ye have tribulation: but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.
