1 Kings 8:44-66 ▼

44 when Your people go out to battle against their enemy in the way that You send them, and they pray to YHWH in the way of the city that You have chosen, and the house that I have built for Your name,

45 then may You hear in the heavens their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.

46 When they sin against You (for there is no one who does not sin) and You become angry with them and deliver them before the face of the enemy, and they have taken captive their captivity to the land of the enemy far or near,

47 and they have turned it back to their heart in the land where they were carried captive there, and they turn back and make supplication to You in the land of those who took them captive, saying, ‘We have sinned and done wrong; we have acted wickedly,’

48 and they return to You with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their enemies who led them away captive, and they pray to You toward their land that You gave to their fathers, the city that You have chosen, and the house that I have built for Your name,

49 then may You hear in the heavens, the fixed place of Your dwelling, their prayer and their supplication, and may You do their justice

50 and forgive Your people who have sinned against You, and all their transgressions that they have transgressed against You, and may You grant them compassion before the face of those who took them captive, that they may have compassion on them.

51 For they are Your people and Your inheritance, whom You brought out of Egypt, out of the midst of the furnace of iron,

52 that Your eyes may be open to the supplication of Your servant and the supplication of Your people Israel, to listen to them whenever they call to You.

53 For You have set them apart to Yourself as an inheritance from among all the peoples of the earth, as You spoke by Moses Your servant when You brought our fathers out of Egypt, O Lord YHWH.”

54 And so it was, when Solomon had finished praying to YHWH all this prayer and supplication, that he arose from before the altar of YHWH, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread up to the heavens,

55 and he stood and blessed all the assembly of Israel in a loud voice, saying:

56 “Blessed be YHWH, who has given rest to His people Israel, according to all that He promised; not one word has fallen of all His good promise that He promised by the hand of Moses His servant.

57 May YHWH our God be with us as He was with our fathers; may He not leave us and not forsake us,

58 that He may incline our hearts to Himself to walk in all His ways, and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His ordinances that He commanded our fathers.

59 And may these my words with which I have made supplication before the face of YHWH, be near unto YHWH our God day and night, that He may maintain the cause of His servant and the cause of His people Israel, the word of a day in its day,

60 that all the peoples of the earth may know that YHWH is God; there is no other.

61 And let your⁺ heart be complete to YHWH our God, to walk in His statutes and keep His commandments, as at this day.”

62 And the king, and all Israel with him, offered sacrifices before the face of YHWH.

63 And Solomon offered a sacrifice of peace offerings that he offered to YHWH, twenty-two thousand bulls, and a hundred and twenty thousand sheep. And the king and all the sons of Israel dedicated the house of YHWH.

64 On that day the king consecrated the middle of the court that was in front of the house of YHWH, for he offered there the burnt offerings and the grain offerings and the fat of the peace offerings, because the bronze altar that was before YHWH was too small to receive the burnt offerings and the grain offerings and the fat of the peace offerings.

65 And Solomon made at that time a feast, and all Israel with him—a great assembly—from the entrance of Hamath to the Brook of Egypt, before the face of YHWH our God, seven days and seven days—fourteen days.

66 On the fifteenth day he sent away the people, and they blessed the king and went to their tents, joyful and glad of heart for all the good that YHWH had done for David His servant and for Israel His people.
