1 A psalm for David. Rejoice in the Lord, O ye just: praise becometh the upright. Shout for joy in the LORD, O you righteous! Praise befits the upright. Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him.
2 Give praise to the Lord on the harp; sing to him with the psaltery, the instrument of ten strings. Give thanks to the LORD with the lyre; make melody to him with the harp of ten strings! Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre.
3 Sing to him a new canticle, sing well unto him with a loud noise. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.
4 For the word of the Lord is right, and all his works are done with faithfulness. For the word of the LORD is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness. For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does.
5 He loveth mercy and judgment; the earth is full of the mercy of the Lord. He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the LORD. The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love.
6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were established; and all the power of them by the spirit of his mouth: By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host. By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth.
7 Gathering together the waters of the sea, as in a vessel; laying up the depths in storehouses. He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap; he puts the deeps in storehouses. He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses.
8 Let all the earth fear the Lord, and let all the inhabitants of the world be in awe of him. Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him! Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world revere him.
9 For he spoke and they were made: he commanded and they were created. For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.
10 The Lord bringeth to naught the counsels of nations; and he rejecteth the devices of people, and casteth away the counsels of princes. The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; he frustrates the plans of the peoples. The LORD foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples.
11 But the counsel of the Lord standeth for ever: the thoughts of his heart to all generations. The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations. But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.
12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord: the people whom he hath chosen for his inheritance. Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage! Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance.
13 The Lord hath looked from heaven: he hath beheld all the sons of men. The LORD looks down from heaven; he sees all the children of man; From heaven the LORD looks down and sees all mankind;
14 From his habitation which he hath prepared, he hath looked upon all that dwell on the earth. from where he sits enthroned he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth, from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth—
15 He who hath made the hearts of every one of them: who understandeth all their works. he who fashions the hearts of them all and observes all their deeds. he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do.
16 The king is not saved by a great army: nor shall the giant be saved by his own great strength. The king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength. No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength.
17 Vain is the horse for safety: neither shall he be saved by the abundance of his strength. The war horse is a false hope for salvation, and by its great might it cannot rescue. A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save.
18 Behold the eyes of the Lord are on them that fear him: and on them that hope in his mercy. Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love, But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,
19 To deliver their souls from death; and feed them in famine. that he may deliver their soul from death and keep them alive in famine. to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.
20 Our soul waiteth for the Lord: for he is our helper and protector. Our soul waits for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield.
21 For in him our heart shall rejoice: and in his holy name we have trusted. For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name.
22 Let thy mercy, O Lord, be upon us, as we have hoped in thee. Let your steadfast love, O LORD, be upon us, even as we hope in you. May your unfailing love be with us, LORD, even as we put our hope in you.
