1 For the one directing. A Psalm of David. In You, O YHWH, I have taken refuge; do not let me be ashamed forever; in Your righteousness, deliver me! In you, O LORD, do I take refuge; let me never be put to shame; in your righteousness deliver me! For the director of music. A psalm of David. In you, LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; deliver me in your righteousness.
2 Incline Your ear to me, and quickly deliver me. Be for me as a rock of refuge, as a house of strongholds to save me. Incline your ear to me; rescue me speedily! Be a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress to save me! Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me.
3 For You are my rock and my stronghold; and for the sake of Your name, You will lead me and guide me. For you are my rock and my fortress; and for your name’s sake you lead me and guide me; Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me.
4 You will bring me out from the net that they have hidden for me, because You are my refuge. you take me out of the net they have hidden for me, for you are my refuge. Keep me free from the trap that is set for me, for you are my refuge.
5 Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O YHWH, God of truth. Into your hand I commit my spirit; you have redeemed me, O LORD, faithful God. Into your hands I commit my spirit; deliver me, LORD, my faithful God.
6 I have hated those serving worthless idols; and I toward YHWH place my trust. I hate those who pay regard to worthless idols, but I trust in the LORD. I hate those who cling to worthless idols; as for me, I trust in the LORD.
7 I will rejoice and be glad in Your loving devotion—in that You have seen my affliction, and you knew of the distress of my soul. I will rejoice and be glad in your steadfast love, because you have seen my affliction; you have known the distress of my soul, I will be glad and rejoice in your love, for you saw my affliction and knew the anguish of my soul.
8 And You did not shut me up in the hand of the enemy, You set my feet on a broad place. and you have not delivered me into the hand of the enemy; you have set my feet in a broad place. You have not given me into the hands of the enemy but have set my feet in a spacious place.
9 Show favor to me, O YHWH, for there is distress for me! My eye, my soul, and my belly have wasted away with grief. Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eye is wasted from grief; my soul and my body also. Be merciful to me, LORD, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and body with grief.
10 For my life has been consumed with grief, and my years with groaning; my strength fails in my iniquity, and my bones are wasting away. For my life is spent with sorrow, and my years with sighing; my strength fails because of my iniquity, and my bones waste away. My life is consumed by anguish and my years by groaning; my strength fails because of my affliction, and my bones grow weak.
11 Among all my enemies I am an object of scorn, even to my neighbors, and a source of dread, exceedingly to those who know me; those seeing me in the street flee from me! Because of all my adversaries I have become a reproach, especially to my neighbors, and an object of dread to my acquaintances; those who see me in the street flee from me. Because of all my enemies, I am the utter contempt of my neighbors and an object of dread to my closest friends— those who see me on the street flee from me.
12 I have been forgotten like a dead man from the heart; I am perishing like a vessel. I have been forgotten like one who is dead; I have become like a broken vessel. I am forgotten as though I were dead; I have become like broken pottery.
13 For I have heard the slander of many, terror from round about, in their taking counsel together against me; they have plotted to take my life. For I hear the whispering of many— terror on every side!— as they scheme together against me, as they plot to take my life. For I hear many whispering, “Terror on every side!” They conspire against me and plot to take my life.
14 Yet I have trusted in You, O YHWH; I say, “You are My God.” But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, “You are my God.” But I trust in you, LORD; I say, “You are my God.”
15 In Your hand are my times; deliver me from the hand of my enemies, and from those pursuing me. My times are in your hand; rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from my persecutors! My times are in your hands; deliver me from the hands of my enemies, from those who pursue me.
16 Cause Your face to shine upon Your servant; save me in Your loving devotion. Make your face shine on your servant; save me in your steadfast love! Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love.
17 O YHWH, do not let me be ashamed, for I have called to You. Let the wicked be ashamed; let them be silent in Sheol. O LORD, let me not be put to shame, for I call upon you; let the wicked be put to shame; let them go silently to Sheol. Let me not be put to shame, LORD, for I have cried out to you; but let the wicked be put to shame and be silent in the realm of the dead.
18 Let the lips of falsehood become dumb, those speaking against the righteous with arrogance, with pride and contempt. Let the lying lips be mute, which speak insolently against the righteous in pride and contempt. Let their lying lips be silenced, for with pride and contempt they speak arrogantly against the righteous.
19 How great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for those fearing You, which you have prepared for those taking refuge in You before the sons of man! Oh, how abundant is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you and worked for those who take refuge in you, in the sight of the children of mankind! How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you.
20 You shall hide them in the hidden place of Your presence, from the plots of man; you shall store them in a shelter, from the strife of tongues. In the cover of your presence you hide them from the plots of men; you store them in your shelter from the strife of tongues. In the shelter of your presence you hide them from all human intrigues; you keep them safe in your dwelling from accusing tongues.
21 Blessed be YHWH, for He has made marvelous His loving devotion to me, in a city under siege. Blessed be the LORD, for he has wondrously shown his steadfast love to me when I was in a besieged city. Praise be to the LORD, for he showed me the wonders of his love when I was in a city under siege.
22 For I said in my haste, “I am cut off from before Your eyes!” Surely You heard the voice of my supplications, in my crying out to You. I had said in my alarm, “I am cut off from your sight.” But you heard the voice of my pleas for mercy when I cried to you for help. In my alarm I said, “I am cut off from your sight!” Yet you heard my cry for mercy when I called to you for help.
23 Love YHWH, all you His holy ones! YHWH is watching the faithful and recompensing the worker of pride in excess. Love the LORD, all you his saints! The LORD preserves the faithful but abundantly repays the one who acts in pride. Love the LORD, all his faithful people! The LORD preserves those who are true to him, but the proud he pays back in full.
24 Hold firm, and He shall strengthen your⁺ heart, all those waiting for YHWH. Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the LORD! Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD.
