1 Of David. A Maskil. Blessed is he with transgression lifted, with sin is covered. Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Of David. A maskil. Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.
2 Blessed is the man for whom YHWH does not reckon iniquity, and in his spirit is no deceit. Blessed is the man against whom the LORD counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit. Blessed is the one whose sin the LORD does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit.
3 When I remained silent, my bones were worn out by my groaning all the day. For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.
4 For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; my juice was overturned, as in the drought of summer. Selah For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer. 5 I made known to You my sin, and my iniquity I did not hide; I said, “I will make confession over my transgressions to YHWH,” and You forgave the guilt of my sin. Selah I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin.
6 upon thus, let every godly one pray to You, in a time to find; even with a flood of great waters toward him, they shall not touch him. Therefore let everyone who is godly offer prayer to you at a time when you may be found; surely in the rush of great waters, they shall not reach him. Therefore let all the faithful pray to you while you may be found; surely the rising of the mighty waters will not reach them.
7 You are a hiding place unto me; from distress you keep me; with shouts of deliverance, You will surround me. Selah You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance. Selah You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.
8 I will instruct you and direct you in the way that you should go; with My eye I will give counsel concerning you. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.
9 You⁺ should not be like a horse, like a mule without understanding, with bit and bridle to curb its ornaments, that there is no coming near to you. Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding, which must be curbed with bit and bridle, or it will not stay near you. Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you.
10 Many are the pains of the wicked, and the one trusting in YHWH, loving devotion shall surround him. Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the LORD. Many are the woes of the wicked, but the LORD’s unfailing love surrounds the one who trusts in him.
11 Be glad in YHWH and rejoice, O righteous ones, and shout for joy, all upright of heart! Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart! Rejoice in the LORD and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart!
