1 And after six days, Jesus took Peter and James and his brother John, and he led them onto a lofty mountain separately. 4 And Peter responded by saying to Jesus: “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you are willing, let us make three tabernacles here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” And Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.” Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”
5 And while he was still speaking, behold, a shining cloud overshadowed them. And behold, there was a voice from the cloud, saying: “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased. Listen to him.” He was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”
6 And the disciples, hearing this, fell prone on their face, and they were very afraid. When the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces and were terrified. When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified.
7 And Jesus drew near and touched them. And he said to them, “Rise up and do not be afraid.” But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and have no fear.” But Jesus came and touched them. “Get up,” he said. “Don’t be afraid.”
8 And lifting up their eyes, they saw no one, except Jesus alone. And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only. When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus.
9 And as they were descending from the mountain, Jesus instructed them, saying, “Tell no one about the vision, until the Son of man has risen from the dead.” And as they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, “Tell no one the vision, until the Son of Man is raised from the dead.” As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus instructed them, “Don’t tell anyone what you have seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”
10 And his disciples questioned him, saying, “Why then do the scribes say that it is necessary for Elijah to arrive first?” And the disciples asked him, “Then why do the scribes say that first Elijah must come?” The disciples asked him, “Why then do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?”
11 But in response, he said to them: “Elijah, indeed, shall arrive and restore all things. He answered, “Elijah does come, and he will restore all things. Jesus replied, “To be sure, Elijah comes and will restore all things.
12 But I say to you, that Elijah has already arrived, and they did not recognize him, but they did whatever they wanted to him. So also shall the Son of man suffer from them.” But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they pleased. So also the Son of Man will certainly suffer at their hands.” But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.”
13 Then the disciples understood that he had spoken to them about John the Baptist. Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist. Then the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist.
14 And when he had arrived at the multitude, a man approached him, falling to his knees before him, saying: And when they came to the crowd, a man came up to him and, kneeling before him, When they came to the crowd, a man approached Jesus and knelt before him.
15 “Lord, take pity on my son, for he is an epileptic, and he suffers harm. For he frequently falls into fire, and often also into water. said, “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he has seizures and he suffers terribly. 17 <V 17:16>Then Jesus responded by saying: “What an unbelieving and perverse generation! How long shall I be with you? How long shall I endure you? Bring him here to me.” “You unbelieving and perverse generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me.”
18 <V 17:17>And Jesus rebuked him, and the demon went out of him, and the boy was cured from that hour. And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him, and the boy was healed instantly. Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed at that moment.
19 <V 17:18>Then the disciples approached Jesus privately and said, “Why were we unable to cast him out?” Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”
20 <V 17:19>Jesus said to them: “Because of your unbelief. Amen I say to you, certainly, if you will have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it shall move. And nothing will be impossible for you. He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.” He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
21 <V 17:20>But this kind is not cast out, except through prayer and fasting.”
22 <V 17:21>And when they were conversing together in Galilee, Jesus said to them: “The Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men. 25 <V 17:24>He said, “Yes.” And when he had entered into the house, Jesus went before him, saying: “How does it seem to you, Simon? The kings of the earth, from whom do they receive tribute or the census tax: from their own sons or from foreigners?” He said, “Yes.” And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do kings of the earth take toll or tax? From their sons or from others?” “Yes, he does,” he replied. When Peter came into the house, Jesus was the first to speak. “What do you think, Simon?” he asked. “From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes—from their own children or from others?”
26 <V 17:25>And he said, “From foreigners.” Jesus said to him: “Then the sons are free. And when he said, “From others,” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free. “From others,” Peter answered. “Then the children are exempt,” Jesus said to him.
27 <V 17:26>But so that we may not become an obstacle to them: go to the sea, and cast in a hook, and take the first fish that is brought up, and when you have opened its mouth, you will find a shekel. Take it and give it to them, for me and for you.” However, not to give offense to them, go to the sea and cast a hook and take the first fish that comes up, and when you open its mouth you will find a shekel. Take that and give it to them for me and for yourself.” “But so that we may not cause offense, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours.”
